Utah Corporate Games Fishing Contest
I remember a while back, their being a big discussion about officially sanctioned fishing contests in this state. I seem to remember that there were no officially sponsored contests for trout in this state and something about the DWR not allowing them. This brings me to ask about the Utah Corporate Games. Does everybody know that there is a fishing contest as part of the games? For the record I have been asked in years past to participate and refused. This year's winning team was fishing for trout at Strawberry and half the team was even fly fishing. I was rather appalled when I saw an article on this including a picture of the 13.2 pounds of trout they caught. Included as part of this 13.2 pounds of trout were several nice cutthroats, that I believe the DWR are asking people to voluntarily release. Certainly none of these had any chance of being released by any anglers who participated in this contest! There were even comments in the article that some of the bigger fish had to be released due to size restrictions in the proclamation. Is this thing even legal and an even better question is the state sponsoring it? People have been saying that the One Fly contest in Jackson Hole is the only official fly fishing contest in this area. I guess we need to add the Utah Corporate Games to this list now. I understand that people will go to Strawberry and keep the bigger fish, but it was rather disturbing to learn that some official contest was requiring it in the name of sport!
