    Default Riffle Caddis

I've really enjoyed the spent caddis pattern that some say Mike Lawson originated--the one with partidge wings and a hackle through some peacock near the front. It works well on smooth water. I'm looking for a good pattern to use on some faster riffles. I know a Stimulator and Elk hair Caddis would work but what are some other good patterns in size 16?

Try a Goddard, whatever fly you use only a little floatant on the very top of the fly. This way it will look like a caddis that is struggling or half drowned. The chance of the fish being able to eat this fly (if it is perceived as rea) is pretty high. If it is floating very high in the water (and it is real) it could fly away prior to the fish chasing and eating it. Thus expending extra energy and not getting a meal for it. The fish will expend the least amount of energy to get the most food. So dont smear the floatant on like it was lube for your d...

When I first started fishing 20 years ago on the LP, some old grizziled man taught me that.

The Iris Caddis developed by Blue Ribbon Flies has been very productive for me and floats surprisingly well for a no hackle sparsely winged fly. The Z-Lon bubble wing does an amazing job of keeping the fly afloat. For choppier water try Walter Wiese's (of Park's Fly Shop) Clacka Caddis modification of the Iris. He copied the Iris but added hackle for better floatation for his clients fishing from a drift boat.

    Default Raw..

I would not go fishing caddis without the following patterns: Improved x, x2(basically the same things as an improved x but with a deer hair wing), emergent sparkle pupa and an x-caddis.

I almost always fish two flies when fishing a caddis hatch. Oddly enough, the top fly is usally a size 14 or 16 stimulator. I also like a Clint's rockstar caddis and cdc and elk as two other flies I would always have in my box when caddis fishing.

    I hope that helps.

you gotz a picture of all those flies you're talking about?

I have patterns I love for most other bugs but I haven't really fallen in love with anything in the caddis family.

No offense, but just type the names in a search engine, that is what I am doing when you ask? Except I seemed to have picked up some malware in the last 24 hours and it redirects to someplace different

Clint is a member of this board and goes by the name of, you guessed it? Rockstar Caddis. PM him.

... and then he kills them and cuts them up. If you've been infected by Jdub then you'd best watch out for what's coming next.
