View Full Version : Stillwater Swap
Ok, guys we've made it through the holidays. Unfortunately, there are more storms lined up and headed our way. It looks like we'll have some water in the local lakes next summer, so its time for a Stillwater Swap. Here are the rules:
1. First 15 folks who reply are in.
2. Tie 15 copies of your favorite stillwater pattern and have them in the mail to me NLT Monday 31 January. Here is the address:
Larry Mangum
2528 North 4350 West
Plain City, Ut 84404.
3. Include a self addressed mailing container with proper postage.
4. If I receive all 15 entries, they'll be back in the mail NLT than 7 Feb.
5. Most importantly, if you're having a problem and can't make the deadline, stay in touch with me.
Any questions, send me a note (larry.mangum@hill.af.mil)

I'd like to get in. My favorite still water pattern is a white/creme woolybugger thing I had my first 30 fish stillwater day with last year.

FLYSmith, so far its just the two of us. If enough folks show interest in the next week, I'll extend the deadline to get the bugs until 15 Feb. However, if there isn't any interest in this swap, it will be cancelled.
Larry
I'll support this swap. Common guys, step up to the plate. I could use some practice in the stillwater category.
Norm
If you limit it to ten (Or say, four....) Count me in.

I'm in- if'n ya take border jumpers.
I'm tying for a mayfly swap on another board with 30 (!!!!) participants. 10 or 15 sounds great.
Ya want us to call dibs on patterns- or is it a surprise deal?
Josh.

COME ON! If you can't tie 14 flies by 2/15...... nevermind Cary, If you give 5 more dollars I'll tie yours;)
I'm in. I'm debating what I'm going to do. Maybe a damsel of sorts. something simple with a woven body and flame decals on the sides.

I think I'll tie a mega version of cheech's Mylar Minnow. I've had some good strikes w/ it at little dell.

I'm new at this swap thing but I'd like to give it a try. I have a generic type of damsel/dragon imitation that works quite well. count me in.

Any hookups on it, or just good strikes?? I'm just trying to get a feel for how effective cheech's patterns may be . . .

Sumner's not in. Since I was the one that caused the confusion, I will tie 2 for each. He's got some secrets in that noggin' of his. I don't blame him for not wanting to share.
My other fly will be a chironomid of sorts. I think..;.

Well, so far I have 4 flies down, I ran out of material so I have to get some before I can tie the remainder.
The flies aren't going to be as big as the MEGA mylar minnow(#4) that I was originally going to tie because I've decided to rethink my strategy on stillwater flies. Instead, I have decided to tie a #8, 3x long mylar minnow without the weedguard that I had originally added to my MEGA mylar minnows.
Instead, this fly is going to be a slimmed down version with medium pearl mylar as the outer body and black diamond braid as the body with copper chain beads for eyes. I think they should work amazingly well. You folks have to tell me any experiences you have with it. Anyways, I'm halfway done. how 'bout the rest of you?

Monday is the day to have your bugs in the mail. Here is the latest status:
1. LBM – Rickard’s Callibaetis Nymph - Done
2. FlySmyth – White/Cream Woolly Bugger Thing
3. Norm - ??????
4. Cary - ?????
5. fishin Idaho – Crappie Candy
6. Cheech – Flame decal damsel think - Done and ready to mail
7. Ezelhappy – Cheech’s Mega Mylar Minnow - Done and mailed
8. FlyDOC – Damsel/Dragon - Dropped them off last night, great looking flys
9. Dennis
I haven't heard from the rest of you, so I'm assuming you'll have them in the mail by Monday. If everybody mails by Monday, they'll be back to you about 1 Mar.
Thanks,
Larry
It'll be close on the monday deadline but I'll work all weekend if I have to.
The Pattern will be a BLONDE STAYNER.

Ezlehappy, I've got your flies they look good. So far, I've only received six of the nine sets. I'll e-mail the folks with the missing flies. Bottom Line - I'm mailing out everything I've received next Monday (14 March). If I don't get them all, you'll get some duplicates.

A likely story. That's what they all say ;-) Just droppin' kids left and right. What's up with that! Congrats and condolences man. Enjoy them while you can control them because soon they will walk all over you.
Sorry Fishin Idaho, I didn't see your post until this morning. As promised, the flies are in the mail. FLYDOC, how late are you open?
