My parents bought me a Renzetti travel vice (with pedestal) for Christmas. They asked for a list and this was what they picked hehe. My uncle was there and he just started tying about 6 weeks earlier. He tied a pheasant tail for me to show me how it's done more or less :). I tyed a hares ear. The smallest hook he had was a size 10, so I used that. I decided to only tye one fly and try to catch a trout with it since you only tye one first fly.
It came out fine other than I didn't do the feathers on the top of the head correctly. I'm anxious to try it out. It has been months since I got a fly wet in a river.
I did a little searching for recommended vices and remembered the Renzetti being mentioned before. I used it while tying my fly. It does seem to be a quality vice. I guess I have some material and tool shopping to do now. :)
I bought my uncle an original artwork by RAW (with rosewood frame), a River Runs Through It DVD that we watched there, a fly box from Orvis, and a reel case from Orvis. He had not seen the movie yet and the phrase and fly on RAW's artwork was from the movie.
