Thistle, like many other locals rivers has decent stonefly hatches. Depends year to year, but you can catch different species between during various times of the year. I believe I fished some goldens once in August/September and some black stoneflies closer to winter months. Haven't been in a while though.

Just get out and see what's going on from time to time. That's the best way to figure it out.

The rumor is not true. The stone's won't be back until August.

It was june or july the last time I was up on a regular basis. and saw a few stonefly's comin' off. but have yet to see a good prolific hatch on thistle. I don't think the dryfly action ever get's to hot up there or diamond fork for that matter. but please correct me if I'm wrong. It's one of my fav little streams and would love to get into some topwater action on it. if anyone has seen a good hatch come off either. what time of year and what species was it

You are right. Never seen a good hatch come off for ALL the years I have fished it. Lots of stones, but not many good hatches
