Anyone know about flyfising the Managua area? I am looking for any information as I think I'll have some time there and am wondering if it is worth pacing a rod down there.

I was there a few months ago. I had the opportunity to visit one of the many islands that dot Lake Managua, I saw a picture of two ten foot Bull Head Sharks that were caught a few years back. Bring steel leader. J/K. My visit was at a very fast pace so I didn't have time to wet a line, I am not sure if you will find much fly fishing if any at all along the interior of the country, I know there are a few places along the Caribbean side. From what I heard from the locals Lake Managua was chuck full of fish, some of the species I recognized were a few types of catfish and bass (not to mention the Bull Head Sharks). You should be able to charter a boat, guide and gear for a cheap rate. There are a few inactive volcanoe crater lakes that I have heard are pretty good fishing. You will also be in a prime location to see a few of the active volcanoes. THe Masaya Volcanoe is one not to be missed. At any rate it's worth a shot if you have time. How many of us can say we have ever had an opprotunity to fish anywhere besides good old North America. Not very many.
