I bought barebones waders this last year, have been very happy with them.
I have the light weights. so far so good. only have about 10-12 trips in them though. have a buddy that has had the light weights for 3 years. they are holding up good for him

A good friend of mine has used their waders for years and not had any problems or leaks with them yet. Not sure what type - they cost him a little over $100 but that was several years ago.

If you watch ESPN's In Search of Trout Water you will see many of their guides wearing Dan Baileys. They are more comfortable, more abbrasion resistant, do not have seams down the inside of the leg, built in gravel guards, built in wadder belt and more. Plus the price is much better. We carry them and have had nothing but good reports from customers. If you would like to try one on come on down. I can not publish a discount for Dan Bailey so let me know who you are if you come in, we will treat you right. You will not regret buying Dan Bailey Wadders.

I promise I'm not trying to be a smart alec, but what do you mean "I can not publish a discount for Dan Bailey"? I have always assumed it was a tactic retailers use to force me into their store, but wouldn't expect that in this forum....

The "Prices" are "set" by the manufacter much like Simms, GLoomis ect. but like Greg said he'll treat you right.

so, are there, like, agreements you sign with a supplier that you won't advertise below a certain thresh hold? Why can't you say "Dan Bailey's (for example) are normally xxx but we have them on sale for yyy" or even, "they are currently y% off our normal price"?
I think I'm hung up on "I can not publish...". Kind of like those guys that tend to yell a lot on the radio about their "great closeout prices" (which aren't all that great but want you to invest in a trip to their store anyway) and use bright paint in their windows about "limited stock" and "prices that are 'too good to tell you about', you'll have to come in and see for yourself"
Promise I'm not trying to start something, I just want the real story from a retailer's perspective...

Many of the larger fly fishing gear manufacturers will not let you sell below retail without their permission which they are not likely to give unless they have an overstock at the factory. If they catch you they will stop supplying your store. That is why you almost never see certain brands go on sell. I don't know if that is the case with Dan Bailey but it is with others.
When Anglers went out of business and was blowing everything out at 50% off, there was one supplier who came over and would not let them sell their products at a discount. Course by the time they got there they were almost all gone!

Trouty is correct. I signed an agreement(contract) with Dan Bailey that does not let me advertise their product below MSRP(Manufactures Sugested Retail Price) without their written permission. Most of the larger Wholesalers do this same thing. They regard quoting a price over the net or the phone as "advertised". That does not mean we do not treat good customers well, or better than another shop. Those with the gold make the rules.

many practices (rules) to finance 'Golden Parachutes' most of which end up as restraint of trade.

OK, I'd like a real straight, honest answer here. I have had the Simms Guideweights for 2 and a half years now and love them. No problems or leaks yet. Will the Baileys breathables be as good as the Simms? Will I like them as much? What is the MSRP on the Baileys?
I'm asking because I feel like I really need/want a second pair of waders as a back-up. The Simms are great and I have great faith in them, but nothing in this world (even Simms) is forever. One day, I don't know when, my Simms will spring a leak and I'd like to have a back-up pair I can go to.
Right now, all I have is an old pair of neoprenes, and I just can't even stomach the thought of putting on those "sausage skins" (even as a back-up) after having used breathables for 4-5 years now.

This is the most "real straight, honest answer" you can get with 90% of the stuff this board is desigend to cover:
It depends.

Sumner,
You may want to search the net for Patagonia SST waders. They are about to release a new model. I picked up a pair for $195, reg $335.
On the subject of Patagonia. The reason you do not find any fly fishing gear in there outlets is that flyshops asked them not to carry them becuase they were competing directly.

The Dan Bailey Yellowstone Wadders are $299.95. I have not had any customer complain at all about them. Like I stated in an earlier post a lot of guides, who spend a lot more time in them than we do use Dan Baileys because of the comfort and durrability. Plus you do not have to make a fashion statement with them, that is just added $$$.

to what greg says. I have a pair of the light weights i believe and they have been very durable. They are very comfortable and durable. I did however rip them in the a$$. But as a guide i have used them countless time out on the water.

hahahaha... I was there when Jason ripped his waders in the A$$. Pretty funny in the sad kind of way. (of course the terrain we hiked was HELL)
I am also looking for another pair of waders...whats this "deal" we're talking about here? Let me know- I'd rather buy local!
