I've got an older Diamond Back (have had it about 8 years now) and the top of three sections doesn't fit anymore. The connection is very loose and the section turns a little after some casting. Any suggestions on how I can tighten up this connection?

look for a crack in the female ferrule. If not it could be tapers are off, probably a painted blank and its worn down.

parrafin wax. If that doesn't work throw a light coat of flexcoat or whatever.

or you can turn your connection several times then pull it apart. You should see glossy rings where the male ferrule comes in contact with the female. those are the high spots and you can sand them down with real fine sand paper. be careful though. This will get you a deeper seat in the ferrule.

I've always used light coats of rubber cement on the male end to fix this problem. Not perfect, but it is an improvement.

just thought of another option. Gudebrod makes a rod varnish that is really thin. You could dip the male end in the bottle and then hang the rod with the male end pointed to the ground. Let the rod varnish almost run completely off. Would probably leave a nice thin level coat that could be removed if it doesn't work.

Better yet, give the rod to your kid, and buy another one, or two.

I will try the wax trick and see if that works. I was thinking of a more permanent fix like adding a thin coat of flex coat, letting it dry, and then sanding it down until I find a snug fit. We'll see if the wax helps for now. Thanks for the suggestions.

Now wait a second. The others had good suggestions, but getting a new rod or two? What's wrong with that? :)

I know, I'll actually be getting a couple new rods here soon anyway, but i still want to keep ol' betsy running. She's good luck.
