For the longest time now, I have wanted to learn two fly tying techniques that still elude me. The first is spinning deer hair. Needless to say I was really bummed when the SLC chapter's last meeting was cancelled. The second technique I would like to learn(which I have absolutely no idea how to do) is tying with wool. I see gorgeous flies like joni's perch fly and I am floored. I want to learn how to tie using wool and I think there is a lot of talent that needs to be both recognized and learned from. So with that in mind, may I recommend that we have a wool night and invite joni and others that have experience with wool to share their knowledge with us.

Good idea. I used to use a lot of wool for SW flies. Problem with wool is that it doesnt shed water very well, so its like casting... a wool sock. Arctic fox sheds water better.

Benifits, though, are that it sinks very well, and keeps a nice profle. Some killer halibut flies are tied with wool.
