Please Help to Clean Up the Lower Provo!
On Saturday, April 27th we'll be meeting at Vivian Park at 8:00am, spreading out and cleaning up the Lower Provo. UDOT will be providing the trash bags, cool orange vests and ultimately the waste disposal for this awesome event. Western Rivers is taking care of the logistics. Free snacks and drinks will be available for those participating.
Please show up and help out! We absolutely need *you* to be there! Spending just a few hours of your time helping out will make a gigantic difference on this river for possibly years to come. If you fish the Lower Provo at all, you know that it's definitely in need of some serious help. If you don't, please take a look at what I cleaned up a year ago from just one small section of stream:

If you care about the future of the Lower Provo and the general environment there, you owe it to the river to be there. If you can look back into your many fly fishing memories and recall with fondness a day on the Lower Provo, you owe it to the river to be there. If you want to be able to take your children or grandchildren fishing on an amazing, local Blue Ribbon trout stream in the future, you owe it to the river to be there. I could come up with 100 more reasons -- and I know that if you consider it for a moment, you could too!
I'm sure that some of you think that I'm going a bit overboard on this, but I'm honestly not. This is a very serious issue! If *we* don't do this, *nobody* will do this. I'll repeat that, because it's the most important thing I've said so far:
IF *WE* DON'T DO THIS, *NOBODY* WILL DO THIS.
The worst thing that you can do is think someone else will do "your" part. They won't. That's precisely why the Lower Provo looks like a garbage dump.
Having said all that, please grab a pair of leather gloves, as many people as you possibly can (or can look after if that's a factor -- we will be near running water and a major road) and show up at Vivian Park at 8:00am on Saturday, April 27th. Stick your rod in the car. We'll easily be finished in time for the BWO hatch. Imagine the sick fishing karma points you'll be scoring while picking up trash!
I would appreciate if all those who are interested in participating would leave a post in my "Cleaning up the Lower Provo: Participants" thread in the Conservation forum so that I have a good idea of who is showing up.
Thanks very much and I look forward to seeing you there!
