Thinking ahead to next year...

...how about fishing the state, and in one year bagging trout at 1 stream & 1 stillwater in each county? Preferably lesser known/quiet water and only waters you've never fished before. Think it can be done?

That sounds like quite a challenge. You might want to give yourself 2 or 3 years considering you would be going for both a lake and stream in each county. Think of how many miles you would be driving? I assume you work,so you would have 52 weekends and maybe 2 weeks of vacation to work with in an effort to cover over 20 counties, or 40+ fishing locations. I think you could find fish in every county, but San Juan might be a tough one, especially for trout. Are you seriouly considering this or just throwing the idea out there? I suppose it could be done if you approached it like the movie "Around the world in 80 days", hitting a water, catching a fish and then hurrying to the next spot.

29 counties actually. And yes, I was thinking of splitting a day or weekend on stream/lake. Right now, I couldn't do it. But if all goes well in the next couple of months, I would have time to do it.

I've also considered finding waters that are near county lines so I could knock off two areas in a weekend. I may have to get access to some private land in some of the drier counties too.

Not sure if I could do it or not, but with some digging and good planning, I think it's possible.

I've actually caught trout in SJ county, although they were planters, in some ponds near Monticello.

Could even make it work for a good cause...get pledges...say $1 per county, like a walkathon, and raise funds for TU or something. Could I write off mileage that way? Would you guys sponsor me?

A way to write off fishing expenses? Tell me more.

I just looked through Hart Wixom's book and he lists trout streams in all of the counties except San Juan. If you do it trying to raise money for TU, maybe you should try to target only native or naturally reproducing trout. If I was going to do that much driving across the state I would be constantly detouring to go sightseeing and it would definitely cut into my fishing time.

If they allowed reports on this site, I'm sure someone would chime in that they already did it!
