Trip suggestions

I am looking to get away out of state for a few day fishing trip. I am hoping to find somewhere that I can rent an inexpensive cabin, condo, kitchenette, etc. that is close to some good fishing. Does anyone have any suggestions - within a day's drive of SLC?

Afton Wy. You can rent a cabin with kitchenette for $45 a night (Corral Motel) and you are 1 hours drive from South Fork, Salt River, Greys River, Hoback, Big Elk, Bear Creek, McCoy creek... etc and 2 hours drive from even more rivers. At this time of year it won't matter what you are using, just get out and go.

Colorado State Parks runs cabins and yurts out of a number of parks:

Sylvan Lake and Steamboat State parks have cabins $60/night. Sylvan Lake is known for above average sized brookies, and you are within one hour of fishing the Frying Pan, Roaring Fork, and Colorado River. 15 min to the Eagle River. Steamboat Lake has a good trout fishery, and an even better opportunity to catch a trophy pike. It is predicted to boot out the next state record. The Yampa River is also within the park.

Again Sylvan, pearl Lake and Ridgeway state parks have Yurts($60/night). Pearl lake is N of Steamboat Springs and also is a good trout fishery, and has pike as well. The scenery at Pearl is outstanding. Ridgeway SP has the Uncompaghre(sp?) River flowing through, it has nice fish, and you may not see any anglers. This is in the SW corner of Colo.

The Colo locations are within 6hrs of SLC.

In Idaho, Herriman SP on the Henry's Fork also has Yurts, and I believe they are also 60/night.

Take the Afton trip, don't forget the Grays river. 60 miles of very fishable water. Salt has many access areas, right near town. South Fork of Snake in the canyon below Hobac junction is an easy float, and or wade fishing. Hoppers there, EHK on the Grays, nymphs and hoppers on the Salt.
