Rod

Last week while on a week long trip into the Uintas with the scouts my 5 wt got broken. (no big suprise there)
I found a good deal on a 9'5wt loomis gl3 blank and was thinking about building one.
I have only fished a gl3 once for a few minutes and that was tossing small dries only.
For those who own, or have fished a gl3 how do they handle heavier nymph rigs and streamers?

Thanks

I have fished with a GL3 9 ft 5 wt for over 7 years now. I have used it for fishing tiny flies on Uintah streams to hucking streamers on the Green to fishing Strawberry and fighting the hogs up there. It is up for any task I have put it to. (It didn't fair too well on my carp fishing extravaganza...need a little heavier rod for those bad boys!) I love it and wouldn't want to fish with any other rod. It will perform under any circumstance here in Utah. I give my reference on the rod, can't beat it!

I have 2 GL3s 3wt 6'6" & 7wt 9'9". I like them both very much. I sold on any G loomis. I also have a 3wt 9'0" GLX and I use the same 3 wt reel depending on the area I'm fishing. If you can find a good deal on G loomis rod or blanks I suggest you do it. I have tried several different rods in the past and I find myself picking up the loomis. I have 7 differnent rods in my closet and I use my loomis rods 99.9% of time. I might be a little stuck on loomis rods but no one else has given me a reason to change.

that is my 2 cents

The GL3's are a little too soft in my opinion. I've got a 4 weight and it casts like a 3 weight or a big noodle. I like my rods a little fast so it's just not my type. It is good for smaller streams and short casts, but not nymphing or hucking streamers. Just my .02.

I have that very same rod. I love it. It is my favorite rod out of the 5 or 6 I own. I fish it way more than any of the others. You won't be dissappointed.
