I will be in Jackson Hole on July 1st and 2nd and have been given a pass to fish one day. Any suggestions other than the Snake and Hoback? Maybe something off the beaten path? Any info would be greatly appreciated.

Hitting Flat Creek wouldn't be a bad option either. It's right out of town and there are some nice, nice cutts in there. It's hardly off the beaten path though. Upper Flat Creek has some brookies and is easier fishing -- and probably gets less pressure.

You will see a ton of great creeks if you go driving around. Most of them, as I understand it after talking to guys at the shops, are on private land unfortunately. I'm sure there are some exceptions, but nobody gave up any dirt the last time I was up that way.

Ah... Sorry. I wasn't paying attention to your dates. I think Grizz is correct.

Aug 1- Oct 31 is the season for Flat Creek on the refuge you would have to contact someone else on the season for the upper section coming out of the lake.

Hit the Gros ventre above upper slide lake. I've had some fun days with Caddis flies in there. It is 10-15 miles on a gravel/dirt road, but not to bad.

If you're up this high, Cottonwood Crik and Goosewing can be fun this time of year. My favorite, especially if I've only got a few hours while my wife shops, is Fish Crik, right through the middle of Wilson. This time of year, Granite Crik, a little north of the ski resort is sometimes pretty good. If its 2 AM, and you got game, Spring Crik is the place to be.

The gros ventre isn't to far and if you want to be completely by yourself head up to the upper section and possibly crystal creek. If you hit crystal there is a ranch that is right there and they put a no trespassing sign up but it is public above it and the dirt road is public as well they are just idiots. Cold Cold water but pretty drive and pretty good fishing. Good luck. Jackson rules!!!

get out town by Fri. afternoon Jackson is not the place to be during the 4th of July weekend unless you don't mind having to "Party Harty".

There are of course a couple of fly shops in Jackson and you might check with them first chance you get after you arrive. They will be able to give you 'current' information.

Buy some tippet material and a few flies and they will put you into some lonesome water.

Stop by Jack Dennis Outdoor Shop, and ask for Jeff Currier. He runs the fishing department, and knows that area very well. I'd try the Greys river, or maybe the Salt. Jeff will probably have up to date reports, that could send you elsewhere.....
