What problems are you having with it? I have used mine for 10 years and it has worked fine. Obviously that does not imply that they all work well.

In all fairness, there are alot of different aspects of flyfishing. Although I do not use fish finders I don't have a problem with people using them. Do you recall the saying about 90% of the fish are located in 10% of the water? Sometimes you need them on still waters or you will get skunked. Stillwater flyfishing is a different world, a whole new ball game from stream/rivers. It's sometimes easy to waltz up to a stream and physically see the structures of the water and the rocks and even the little fishies. You can watch the hatches if any and study the feeding fish. Well on stillwaters it aint just that. They usually feed under surface and you really should know the structures below. " Well how would a person know the structure under a Lake?" asked the FunnyMan. Let me tell ya, it's called a fish finder.

I used to use them many years ago on my tube. A few of them sometimes just started to act up and I'd buy a new one. After about a half dozen, I just stopped using them. The best advise I would have is to get a pontoon where you could mount a more reliable finder.

That's cool! You would be amazed over alot of the rigs that are out on lakes. It's like taking a full sized fishing vessel and miniaturizing it onto a pontoon. Packing multiple rods, coolers, fish finders, motors, etc... Much much fun!! ;-) Weasel

The main use that I have for a fish finder on a float tube is still water structure fishing. Just as bass are drawn to structure, I have found that trout are as well. It is interesting to see a group of fish on a structure, toss a sinking line with a bunny leach or wooly bugger on it towards them, and see how long it takes for the competition of the fish to bring an attack on the fly. As I do virtually all catch and release fishing, it does add an additional dimension to our fun sport!

on my kickboat i had to go to a electric motor and battery when i got much older and my knees went out.
the garmin 80 is a better DEPTH FINDER than the buddy only because the cone angle is broader and it runs on the battery i already have .
the side finder was more distractuon than help---- every piece of moss showed fish. once in awhile my depth finder will show a fish but thier always small in my world. the fish are in such shallow water , 15ft or less most of the time, it's the depth i want to know. and like the other fisherman said ,,,,structure.

I ended up buying another fishinbuddy 1200 new for 60.00 so that is what I have been using, but I will be mounting a garmin or something like that on the kick boat I purchased.
