I hope that by taking these pics and uploading them, they help you with tying up your patterns. Possibly help in the creation of new fly patterns. I was out watering my lawn and saw some Green Damsels flying around. Here are a couple of the photos. I will try and take some photos of the patterns I have tied up that Match The Hatch.
***Edit to add Damsel Pattern.

Jaymorr,
How do you do it? Dead bugs are the only ones that pose for me.

How big was that Dragon? It looks like it has a 4" body or so?
When you tie one up (you are probably doing it now in between posts), can you put the pictures side by side for me?

Thorr I added a Damsel pattern. I tied this up real fast. I ran out of clear eyes which is what I would use. I also did not take the time to add some legs. But you get the idea.

JayMorr,
For my damsel eyes I use a 1" piece of mono flamed at each end. To closer match true color I use a waterproof marker. Uncolored mono ends up a slight translucent brown if you let the mono catch fire, but if you're slow & careful, and don't let it flame, you can melt them clear.

Nick I use the same but am out. I need to pick up some more. I think this matches the eyes much better! I just through the black on because it was all I had. I also use a different body style. It is a little bit more round.

That's a dandy looking fly!
Spin a few in orange & black & head north big boy, head north..
I tied a few up at the Daniels boat ramp some years back & employed nightfish' recomend's & burned some butt section of my leader down into little round foggy brown eyeballs.
nice fly!

How many people have actually run into the surface feeding on these flies, or do they just make good attractors on lakes?
I have done well with the nymphs, but never very much on the dry. Just wondering?

Thanks Grizz. I will try the Orange. The mono eyes match the best like you guys mentioned.
dsw, Damsels work very well on rivers as well on small mountain streams. Next time your up one of the Canyons throw on a damsel. I think you will be suprised how hard some of the little trout pounce on them.

I have never used damsels or dragon fly patterns on trout water but have used them on slower bass rivers and lakes and will continue to do so.
It just never occured to me to dig into my gear bag for my bass fly box.
