Has anyone from this site been to Manitoba, Canada fly fishing for trout before or know someone who has? I was up there a couple years ago with a group of guys from the Salt Lake CIty area and it was incredible. I cought some huge trout, nothing we caught was small. The group was put together by Mike Andrasen from Bountiful when he owned Mike's Fly Desk, which is know called The Fly Desk.

If anyone has been up there or is interested in going up I would like to plan another trip later this fall. The entire trip for 10 days of fishing, including transportation (you driving your car or car pooling), food, lodging and licences was less than four hundred dollars. I'm not kidding. The fish are huge and the cost of the trip is really inexpensive. The Hotel we stayed in is called the Russell Inn, and it is in Russell, Manitoba. The hotel is nicer than most places I have stayed in while on fishing trips, and the fishing was the best I have ever had. That's why I'm wanting to go back up there again.

If you have been up there or happen to know someone that has, please let me know. If you are interested in going reply back to this thread and we can look at putting a trip together.

By the way, some of the fish I cought last time I was up there are in the Photos area of this site. My pics are on page four, on the third row, and I'm the one in the blue pontoon boat.

Hope to hear from you anyone soon.

Fishn, I talked to Dennis Brakke (Fly Desk) earlier this year and they still go up there in the spring and fall. Next year is when we planned on going. He described the trip the same as you. This sounds a little like heaven to me. Holy $h1t Batman, I just looked at the pictures. Looks like I have to invest in a real big net. Can't wait.

Is this the kind of Place that you could take a Novice type Fly Fisherwoman?

I've been looking for a Trip to take my Wife on, and Alaska is not it, nor is New Zealand or anywhere else that is extremely Exotic.

I was leaning towards the YellowStone/Montana Type Fishing with a Guide, but this whole Manitoba Canada sounds a bit more Exotic than saying I'm going to take her to YellowStone.

Who would I get in Contact with, either in UT, or Canada?

Mr T,

I was a novice when I went a couple years ago. I had a few friends that were really good fishermen and they helped me learn. They took the time to show me what equipment to purchase and what flies I needed to tie, since they had all been there the previous two years.

If your wife likes fishing and she knows how to cast and fight big fish, it should not be a problem for her. I’m taking my wife next time I go, although she is a much better than most of the guys I fish with. She is really good and has spent many hours on lakes and rivers fishing. Thats why I married her!!!

The fish in Canada are not like the hatchery trout in Utah, that are easy to catch. At times, it takes a lot of patience, skill, and stamina to catch a dozen fish in one day. On average, I was spending 4 to 8 hours on the water trying to catch a dozen or so 5-12 lbs. trout.

If your wife has not fished much it could be very frustrating for her. You would have to decide for your self, based on her ability and patience to wait for you. The area is beautiful and there is a ton of wildlife to see. As for me, the scenery is worth the drive by itself, and the huge trout make it that much better. I will never go to Alaska fishing as long as Canada is an option. The fishing, lodging, and price cannot be beat. I have a ton of research on this area if you would like to read it.

For the best and current information, I would contact the “Fly Desk” in bountiful. Here is their URL: www.flydesk.com Good luck!

I received some more info. concerning this area, and at this time I think I will be better served to just go spend a Week Fishing in the Montana/Yellowstone area.

She is pretty New to Fly Fishing, and Loves to go, but too much Info. trying to learn the different Styles of the Sport would probably overwhelm and frustrate her.

So.................... I think I'll take it 1 Step at a Time!
