I just got a call from my brother who sounded heart broken. He is in the process of building a Sage XP 590-4 (first time builder), and from the sound of his voice I knew he screwed something up. Last night when glueing the threads of one of the ferruls he got a little epoxy on the male section and didn't realize it until today. He could not pull the 2 pieces apart. The only thing I could think of was trying to very carefully score it with a razor knife and pull it apart. I told him I would post here to get some tips. Any advice would be appreciated.

Does your brother drink? Is he allowed outside? Alone? Did he at least Epoxy the two section in the proper alignment?
First "Go Slow". Acetone will loosen many Epoxys 'and finishes'. so be careful and go slow with Q-Tips and a little dab of acetone on a separate piece of paper that you have put some of the epoxy used on the rod. No sense in messing with the joint until you find out if acetone will soften the epoxy.
DO NOT! Use a vise, channel pliers, vise grips, hammers or trained gorillas on the blank.
You also might want to call the mfg. and Fish Tech.

LOL, that was funny Ouzel. If you knew my brother you would totally understand.
I just called him to tell him your advice about the acetone and he said he was able to get it apart by lightly scoring it with a razor and then pulling. He said the epoxy was still a bit tacky. He used FC. It has been almost 24 hours. Should it still be tacky? If so, how long does that last?

I was laughing at the origional post. I had been wondering how to get my hands on a one piece, now I know.
But, that epoxy can stay tacky for a while if you didn't mix it right. Either give it another light coat or wait a day or two more.

Oh sure! now we have a wealth of information - what happened to wrapping the rod in plastic, dipping it in acetone, putting it in a tube and lighting it on fire. Or how about boiling it, that was a creative one.........J/K :-)
glad he got the rod apart.

am glad your brother got the rod apart.
Flex Coat will typically cure by 24 hours unless as Newtyer suggests it was not mix properly. Maybe it has been cool or humid or both where-ever your brother set it.
Let it alone for another day or so to allow the epoxy to finish curing.
I don't know your brother but I'm sure he can read, have him read and follow 'the instructions'.
