Does anybody have and ideas on how to get a grip off a blank? This was the 1st rod I built, about 15 years ago - I used some really cheap components on it back then (see broke college student) the butt section broke and I sent it in and got my new blank, I'm gonna use top notch components this time around, so basically I have a busted up rod with crappy components on it. There is about 4 feet of the tip section that is in fine shape, so my plan was to make a bastardized ice fishing or crappie rod out of it, using all the same components - just for nostagia and all because it was the first rod I built. The plan was to cut the cork in half and put the reel seat in the middle. I got the seat off the back with a lot of grunting and pulling, but the grip won't budge. Any ideas, maybe something that will take care of the epoxy without hurting the cork?
Thanks

Short length of 1 1/2" PVC with cap, quart of acetone, small baggie from kitchen. Put the baggie over the cap and poundthe PVC into the cap. This will help seal the cap and pipe as acetone attacks many types of glue. Leave this sit for an hour or so which will allow some of the acetone to soak into the cork a bit.
Then set the damn thing on fire and get on with building a new rod with new parts. :-)

LOL, but what about the history of my special rod Ouzel?
Actually I figured out a much simpler way to do this. If I would have been thinking before hand, I would have come up with the idea that the tip section is smaller in diameter than the butt, and fits inside it. Less build-up that way anyways. So I've just cut the butt section flush with the grip.
After drilling/cussing/pounding away at the grip for about an hour, it hit me like a brick------DOH!

I salute your ass-tuteness in your 'problem solve' of keeping your beloved handle in tact to continue recording memories in its new winter time role.

Steelie, hang it up and leave it in it's original setup.
Get you a new rod!
