for the summer for work, need to purchase a 8-10 weight Rod and set-up, I really don't have time in the next 3 days to try every manufacturer.
Looks like I'm going to have a few days of free time once in a while, and will be in what I have been told is the premiere Arctic Char, Dolly Varden, Sheefish, Salmon area in the country.
Any advice, info. will be greatly appreciated.

Want to make some extra money while there? buy a truck load of Pixies down here in Utah. Then, sell them while your up in Alaska....you could double your money! Better odds than Vegas!
Where will you be?

pixees: http://www.bluefox.com/products/index.html click on lures, then on Blue Fox spoons. Pixees are the first in the list.
pixees = not too expensive in the lower 48, but very expensinve in Alaska, and very popular with the hardware throwers chasing salmon.
If you plan on fishing for salmon with the hardware, buy it down here, and take it with you. It will save you a ton of $$$.

I will be in the Kotzebue Sound area working, with the Kobuk and the Selawik Rivers nearby but the project I am on has a 206 Caravan Airplane and a Hughes 500 Helicopter, so seeing most any area in alaska will not be a problem.
I have heard the Caribou # in the hundreds of thousand, and the Moose are almost as plentiful. I'm just hoping the only bear I see are from a distance.
I am out of here tomorrow, and should be Fishing by the weekend, looks like this summer should be an adventure.

damn...I'm jealous! You'll see bears...both from afar, and too close for comfort! Have fun.

Go with a Sage DS2 890-4 and a Ross Reel Canyon 4. That should cover you for everything short of Kings. Flyline I'd recommend would be either Rio Grande WF8F or SA Mastery GPX WF8F. I think with the Grand you can overline it if you want, GPX just keep with an 8. The whole set up should run you about $700 or so, though it may vary depending on if the flyshop guy charges you for line (sometimes they'll throw that in if you're getting the whole setup and save ya $50). You can also get a spare spool and throw sink tip on it or buy Rio 8weight Versitip.
That outfit is just about perfect for AK and still keep ya under a grand. It'll work great for lots of other places and species too. Have fun...yell lots, it'll keep bear away...or is that draw them in closer...
Best of luck.
