Was up in IP this past weekend. I didn't fish Henry's but talked with the guys at the fly shop (Jimmys) in IF. They said it fished really well during the bad weather on opening weekend but since the weather has cleared up it has really slowed. The guys at Sportsmans said it has been fishing well with Rapalas. (FWIW) I am more likely to trust Jimmys. Since I didn't fish it I can't speak for their veracity. Best bet would be to call some of the fly shops up there.
I fished the upper part of the Box for parts of three days. Couldn't meet up with my buddy so I just wade fished it. They just raised the level to 1000 cfs so the water is higher than it has been for some time which makes it a little more difficult wading. A little more difficult finding the fish if you don't know the river well. The fishing was a bit slow but was fairly consistent. Not very crowded at all. I fished one evening at the power house and didn't see another fisherman from the guide launch to the Buffalo River. Now, if you hit the river below Ashton dam you will find it VERY crowded.
What the river didn't give up in numbers it gave up in size. Truly a "hog-fest." More fat stripes in a single trip to the Box than I've had in some time. A number of break offs and run down the canyon faster than me episodes. (Shoulda been there Grizz!!) Even caught some whities there - first ones I caught out of there in I don't know how long. I was actually going to hit the Coffeepot area but couldn't tear myself away from the slow but big experience. Not a lot of surface activity (their usually isn't in the Box) but there were some caddis coming off.
Good Luck if you go!
Jason/Mike - If this is too much of a report, go ahead and delete it.
