View Full Version : A life saved
Anyone ever save a fellow fisherman? We were out fishing last sunday, and on the way in we ran into a distressed boat about 3 miles off shore of the big island. He was in a homemade 14ft boat with no cb or radio and his engine had died. As we approached we saw he had a large ahi about 150 lbs. lashed to the side of his boat. He wanted a tow in so we threw him a line and three hours later he was back in port. We kept looking back to see if any sharks would follow him in for the tuna, like old man and the sea. When we got to port I noticed he had a large ono of about 50 lbs in the boat. He had no ice for either fish, and the meat must have been burnt. What a waste, but he was thankful to be alive. Unreal the risks some people will take, Aloha Mems.

All I have to say is ONO!

He was a skinny, sunburned haole, and yes he was lucky.
Definitely a lucky guy! I've never saved anyone while fishing, but I can't tell you how many exhausted or half drowned tourists I ended up paddling back to shore when I lived on Oahu. (nice to see someone from Hawaii on the forums!)
Aloha!

Nice job mems.
Just curious, but how did you hear about www.utahonthefly.com? Do you have any ties to Utah?
Good job Mems. Sounds like the makings of some pretty sour Lomi Lomi?
I will be in the rockies in august, and wanted info on the green. I will be in colorado, wyoming, and then hit the green before I come home. I started to read your folks posts, and when you aren't dissing each other, I get some good info. It seems fishermen from Utah like to read about saltwater flyfishing in hawaii, must be the mormon connection. Monday we are going hunting for marlin, and big ahi, whish me good luck, aloha, Mems.
