I lived there as a youngster for 3 years (military) and saw some wonderful water, beautiful castles and forests. They aren't called German Browns for nothing, just find the maps with the waterways, the Black Forest is huge.

I served my mission in Germany and I have actually been to Heidelberg a few times. The Heidleberg castle is pretty neat. Fishing in Germany isn't the same as it is here there are far more rules and regulations. I did notice a few tackle shops though I did not visit any of them. Heidelberg is a fare-size city and should have a tackle shop. Locating it will be another adventure all together.

I don't think I really helped that much

It helps- I am just wondering if it is worth packing/taking some stuff with me- if I finish my 3 pc rod then I'll for sure take it, just in case- otherwise I don't know.

I also served a mission in Germany...from what I understood, fishing in Germany is mostly private. I would suggest that you leave your fishing gear home...it is very difficult to gain access or permission to fish and the cost is higher than it is here. Southern Germany, though, is full of beautiful streams that are probably full of browns.

Google is the finest invention of the new age. I entered "fly fishing in Germany" and this was the first hit:
