View Full Version : Anyone want a fishing dog?

We are thinking of giving away one of our dogs, the other one has a home (we suppose) if we just call them. We have come to the realization that our lifestyles don't accomodate dogs well.

The one that is up for grabs is named Buddy. He is a purebred border collie but he is fixed. He has a very pleasant attitude and craves attention. He's very smart as well, as most border collies are. He is about 6 months old, so he's still a puppy and can be easily trained at this point. He merely needs someone who's lifestyle can give him the attention he deserves.

Anyone interested? He can probably be trained as a fishing companion:-)

OH man, Border Collies, Blue Healers, Auzie Sheps, are my favorite dogs. Cow dogs. I would love to take the dog off your hands If I find a house with a yard next week. I couldn't put the dog through living in an apartment. Especially not a collie. I'm sure he would make a excellent lil fishing buddy.

You should have went with a German Shorthair! Great fishing partner. Sorry to hear that you have to give it up, does the dog come with it's own fly rod?

My wife and I have been talking about getting a dog and may be interested. I'd have to talk to her before I could make a comittment. Any health issues (hips, etc.)? Papers?

one thing that I need to mention is that he does seem a little posessive about his food when it comes to other dogs; humans he's alright with, but when our other dog starts trying to eat out of the same dish at the same time, he does tend to get snappy. He'd be a great dog in a one dog house. He's okay as part of a pair, but he is just a little posessive at dinner time if he has an eating partner. Shoot, we all are. I know I certainly don't like other people eating off my plate. They can get their own food.

no health issues. Papers? As far as certification of being pure bred? No. He has had his rabies shots but I'm not sure about the others(distemper, etc).

I talked to the boss. We'd like to look at him and if everything looks ok, we'll probably take him. Could we see him sometime Saturday?

I would love the dog, but I have to put an end to the suffering of my wifes 20 yr old, one eyed, worthless little mutt.

Maybe when I get back from LA next week "tinkerbell" will suddenly come up missing. If this happens I will see if you still have the dog.

Before we go further with this I need to make sure that Tip, my other dog does have a home, I don't want to split up the pair before I know that both will be taken care of. You are welcomed to come over and take a look at him, see if he is what you're looking for, but I want to hold on to him until I have Tip's situation hashed out. What time are you thinking? I have to work from 2:30 -11pm. I MUST leave my house by 2:00pm at the latest.

I just found out that Buddy has not recieved his second rabies shot (If I understand what was communicated to me through my sister.) My parents are in Europe, so I'm brokeraging this deal with limited information at times.

My mom, apperently was given the materials to give the shot, but failed to do so before she left for Denmark. I checked the stuff yesterday and the distemper serum has/is dried up. There is another vial marked Leptospira Canicola-Grippotyphosa that is still liquid. I merely need to inject him with it. I just don't know if that is the rabies vacine.

I hope this doesn't turn you off from considering taking Buddy. BTW, I have a confirmed home for Tip, so Buddy is good to go as soon as he finds a home. I can also throw in a bag of dog food for the family that takes him. That brings up another important point, I would like to see Buddy go to a family that has a lot of people to keep him company and give him more than we could. Do you have kids?

Most of the Distemper stuff is dried up and you mix it with another vile of liquid, you may just need to mix them together, If you don't feel good about it drop by an IFA store and they have shots you can give for around $5.00.

Sorry for the intrustion, just bouncing around forums and saw this.

The rabies shot is not included in the shot you are talking about. Rabies shots are under more control, they are supposed to be administered by licensed vets. As far as I know you cannot purchase the Rabies vaccine and inject yourself.

I'd also call your vet before injecting the other stuff as well. JMO

I've been thinking, If you and your wife have an active lifestyle that you will actually give attention to Buddy, perhaps kids aren't a necessary element in the picture. He does seem to be the more independent of the two dogs, yet still craves attention when he can get it. Give me a call tommorrow and we can talk about it and see if this deal is still a possibility. I'm home til 2pm.

I agree. You should take your dog to see a vet for his shots. The medication you have may be expired and may injure your dog.

If LBM decides not to take Buddy, Is anyone else still interested in having him?

Thanks, but bot my wife and I are too busy right now to pay the amount of attention a puppy not only needs but deserves. Good luck.
