I live in Roy and was wondering if anyone up north sells thread color preserver? Hooked is all out and won't have any more until next week and I wanted to do a rod this weekend.

I've got some Gubrod you can borrow no problem. I live in West Haven. The problem is its 2:30 and I don't know if we're going to the green or not later this afternoon for the weekend.
My cell is 725 0592
If I'm home you can have it.

Do most of you rod builders use color preserver on your thread?

Dan,

I may call you tomorrow, if you are in town. Thanks!

Drake,

I've built 6 or 7 rods and this is the first time I've even wanted to use the stuff. I have some cool colored thread that I just don't want to change color. I thought I would try it out.

the preserver actually hurts the ability of the epoxy to coat and seal the threads. i used to use it but Cary and others showed me the light. (but to be honest, i have not seen any difference in longevity of threads sealed then epoxied, versus epoxied straight). but i defer to the wisdom of others.

I'm going to be in Happy valley (Provo) tomorrow morning, but should be back around noon.
Call I won't be far from Roy.

I lied this is Cabela's brand preserver. I used it on one rod so the bottles near full. Didn't use it on the second rod, but they both catch fish.

I have never used it and never will. The comparisons are endless but I just dig the look without it.

Dan,

Thanks for the use of your preserver, What is the best way to get that bottle back to you?

Thanks,
Danny

Many like the shiny/glossy high build look you get from using epoxies but I never have. I like Flexcoats color preserver for its lack of light reflection. I've made quite a few rods for myself mainly but also a number for others and some of them wanted a glossy finish.

One of the reasons I like Flexcoat Color Preserver is because it is so thin and does not build up on you quickly. A number of coats can be put on without loosing thread definition.

Companies started with the fast dry high build epoxy to increase production and to make their rods more 'customer' proof.

The color preserver protects fine all by itself.
