View Full Version : WR Fly Tying Contest: Congrats to Jason!
A congratulations to my partner in crime Jason who nabbed 3rd place in the dry fly portion of the Western Rivers Fly Tying Contest with his extended body drake pattern! It's a hot fly and obviously the jury agrees! He beat out 36 other people for 3rd place, so that's definitely saying something. Congrats Jason!

Western Rivers Flyfisher Fly Tying Contest Rule and Registration Form
This free fly tying contest will focus on trout flies that are predominantly tied out of natural materials. All trout flies that are entered into the contest will be accepted and judged. This is for fun and we encourage tiers of all abilities to participate.
1. The category and deadlines are as follows. Flies received after each deadline for the category will not qualify for judging or prizes.
- March 8 Dry Flies
- March 15 Nymphs
- March 22 Emergers
- March 29 Terrestrials
2. Flies will be judged by 5 judges on the merits of:
- Quality of the pattern
- Proportions and balance
- Fishability
- Pattern creativity
Use of natural materials. The use of natural materials will be viewed as favorable by the panel of judges vs. those patterns tied solely out of synthetic materials.
3. Each week we will select 3 top patterns, with one winner/pattern selected as the weekly winner. That winner will be eligible for the Grand Prize. Each of the top 3 weekly patterns will receive a prize.
4. A maximum of three (3) patterns may be submitted per contestant for each category.
5. Registration forms are available on-line or at Western Rivers Flyfisher.
6. Commercially tied patterns will not be accepted.

I was fortunate to be at WR when Jason submitted his fly to get first-hand account of seeing it. It is definately a winner. In fact it was so good it scared me off from even attempting to enter a fly. Congrats Jason.
