I had a chance to pick up some bugs on the Green this past weekend. Huge Cased Caddis and some really neat Baetis.

Remind me to bring them at the next tying session so I can show you. Or I will take some pics.

J,

Stone cases or Stick cases ? Did Jason get a look at them ?

I'm guessing of the back of my hand that they are Pycnopsyche. If we do lunch this week, bring them.

We got some nice bugs at Indian Crossing takeout today. Haven't classified them yet, but the mayflies looked like PMD's & some ripe BWO's. Also got some scuds, caddis, a good sized chirono (think BROWN zebra's! #16-18), and some tiny leeches.

Yes thats what they look like Lonnie. But I have to say mine are a little fatter and more tapered. I will bring them Tues with me. I definitly want you to check these things out.

I saw quite a bit of the round cased caddis but not stone..more like; leafs. Any ways I only kept the gravel ones for my collection.

I was up yesterday doing bug samples and collected about 12 different species of aquatic bugs from up in one of my spots. This week is spring break for me, we should go bug hunting.

About 5 or 7 years ago, I was up from Little Hole about 2 miles or so. I found a couple of stonefly shucks on the side of a decent size boulder near a riffle area. I know the Green isn't known as a stonefly water but was curious if anyone has ever tried a stone nymph there or seen the naturals or shucks?

I have fished them all the way up to Mother-n-Law. The Stones that I see are slender black stones which hatch in the spring. A black ant or rio grande king (parachute) are some of the good top water choices. A size 12 or 14 p.t. and or prince will work below.

I have personally not seen golden stones, salmon flies or others of this type on the Green.

We really hammered the slender black stones at Mother-n-Law last year in late April. They were eating large P.t's and princes.

When they hatch and fly away they flutter alot like a large flying ant and are often mistaken as an ant by casual observation. The fishing can be fast and furious so if you see stones, match appropiately and hang on.
