Was on the Lower Provo on Saturday and got to use some of my new vials. Four saining samples were taken and no Golden Stones.
Lots of Baetis nymphs, Cased Caddis,.... but no Stones. Just thought this was odd.

How many habitat types did you sample? Did you guys roll rocks and pick off woody debris? That's generally where I pick up Perlid stoneflies. Stones are generally pretty pollution intolerant and I don't know how common they are down there....

Goldens are normally quite common on the LP. In fact, I know of a couple of stretches where they are a decent hatch with fish keying on the adults. Next time I'm out I'll dig up some areas I've seen them in and see what I can find.
Try rolling some rocks in highly oxygenated water, i.e. heavy riffles. I also tend to see them clinging on flatter rocks.

Check out under the bridge at Nunns Park. Usually find black stones but never looked for goldens

Jay,
Stef & I were bug hunting on the Logan a couple weeks ago. Stef turned over a small chunk of half submerged log in a riffle, and there were nearly a dozen on the underside. We picked a couple off the rocks, but that log was definitely the place to be.

It really depends on where you are on the river. I personally have not seen any golden stones above Olmstead on the Lower. Once you get into the city you will find more stones, i was actually fishing RAWs stone in the city and did well. As soon as you have some free time i will take you to one of my favorite bug collecting spots. I can say there is everything from stones (several different kinds), sows, drakes (same as stones, different kinds), and everything from BWO to PMD and several that i have yet to identify.
Im ready when you are.
If you have a chance stop by Eddies, that is where most of my bugs are on display.
