Right at ice off go slow with whatever you fish--- personally I like a strike indicator with alot of leader- a fly that has always produced early is just a bead head that pretty much glows-
I put on a bead head than crystal flash- usually green and clear larva lace over it. It pretty much glows- then slowly twitch in the strike indicator--- but whatever you fish early on Treas. go slow---and a strike indicator makes you do that. Later it will pick up.
Still have a little bit to wait- they will be stacking up and the outlet at first ice off- but you will have to fight a lot of people- just isn't that much fun until there is open water to get an actually run out of them. Otherwise I hate it when they leap and hit thier head on the ice.

I have had good luck at ice-out with similar flies to Crosbie's. I usually use a bright red or dark green beadhead brassie with a long leader under an indicator. I go real slow as well and if there is any breeze at all I won't even strip it. I will let the waves move it for me. He is right about fighting off the people though. When the ice is back 30 or 40 feet off of the dam sometimes you can't find a spot to fish.
