I got a phone call yesterday 6:30ish from Rod-blanks.com telling me that my card had been rejected on the order I put in for a 9' 5wt. We figured out that I had fat fingered the exp. date. They re ran It while I was on the phone and all was well. Up until that point I didn't know who I was talking to but the guy then tells me he is the owner of Rod-Blanks and his name is Scott Melton.

Had an interesting conversation for 10-15 minutes. He has been on this site lurking a few times but doesn't have alot of time to screw off like some of us. He figured out that alot of the blanks were coming to Utah and named Cheech, JayMorr and Chris as some who were using his blanks and wanted us all to know that they have over 1000 items for sale but they don't have them on the website. You can get a price list of all of it if you email him. They will be coming out with a CD of their inventory this spring.
Those of you looking for cork should give him a ring cause it sounded like he has grades 1, 2 and 3 and you don't have to order $100 at a time. Probably no burl though. (didn't ask)
I told him to sign up as rodblank and join in on the fun. Most everone has had their teeth pulled so the biting doesn't hurt to much.

Anyway sounded like a nice guy trying to make a business out of a sport the rest of us are addicted to.

That was probably a misunderstanding on my part Chris. This is an official retraction of your name. ( I understand the implications)!!! The guy didn't come across as a sales turd just someone doing business and making conversation.

Sorry man no harm intended.

If any of you want the parts list, it is in a Excel spreadsheet format and I can get it over to you. Scott has been great to work with and he has a lot of items not listed on the site.

Just wanted to clarify. There actually are implications though. Contracts and all.

I'll second what JayMorr said. Scott Melton has been nothing but great to work with. I know that the blank is not the same quality as a T&T or some of the others available, but for a first rod, or a back-up you can't beat it. IMO the other blanks are not worth a $300 increase in cost. I know some will disagree with me and argue their point on warranties, etc., but to a broke college kid, it is a great option. To all those who are building those rods, enjoy them, to those who don't build them, enjoy whatever you choose to fish with. I really don't think the fish care one bit.

P.S. I've bought components from Scott as well. Good prices, and he even called me to make sure things got to me on time.

I've ordered a couple of rods from him. Not too shabby especially considering the price.

Met the guy and his wife up at the sportsmans show up here. I picked up that lil 3 wt cause I liked the action and for 15 bucks why not and a reel seat. I got to look at his cork and the grade 3 is pretty decent. He said he ordered some flor grade (grade 4) and rejected it because the quality was less than his grade 3. He also said the CD will be ready next month. Those pontoon boats he sells dont look to bad themselves. Anyways he's a nice guy and I mentioned the message board and he grinned and said "those guys love me". So for anyone wanting to build a first rod or one of many pick up that lil 3 wt. IMO Its the pick of the litter from those $15 blanks. But I guess for that price you can't go wrong with any of em.
