View Full Version : Rate the winston LT5 4 wt.
I just bought a winston LT5 4 wt. Can anyone give me a rating on a scale of 1-10 on the following topics:
1. How soft is the tip?
2. Casting speed?
3. Durability?
4. Overall rating?
Many Thanks!

Just out of curiosity, did you cast it before you bought it?
Having others rate it after you bought it seems strange. Or at least to me anyway.
I have a LT5 in a 5w. If the 4 is anything like the 5w
Tip wise -6 --on a scale of 1-10 on very soft tip to stiff tip.
Casting speed 5 again 1-10 sloow to fast TCR speed
Durability- -100 compared to an Abrams tank (or even more the -100)
Overall rating for fishing for trout. 10+
But this is only my assesment
After you fish it, you'll come up with your own conclusions.
I think you'll like it.
Yea, I did cast it...I thought it was the smoothest rod I have ever casted. I just wanted other peoples 2 cents. I guess Ill have to get a 3 wt if I want an even softer tip. Cody

I don't think you'll need a 3w for a softer tip. I've never broken the tippet because the tip is too stiff. Fish it for a while and I think you'll want to get a 6w. I rated it at a 6 because I figure the softer tips would be in a 1-4 rating which would be more like cane and first generation graphite. I've had some Springfield hogs on with my rod almost vertical (pointing up)and the tip pointing down.
What do you want a softer tip for?
Well, I have a 6 wt. fly logic and a 5 wt. T&T. I do alot of small stream and pocket water fishing, so I wanted a rod that would make a smaller fish pull better (ok,ok...I wanted a rod that would make a 12 incher feel like 18.) Maybe that is a selfish or unrealistic reason to want a softer tip, but thats the truth...im just greedy for a better fight. My 5 wt. has just a bit too much back bone for smaller water and fish.

I dunno if my 7x has broke because my tip was to stiff or user error. I'll blame it on the rod. :)
but in all seriousness I like a slower action rod for a certain beaver pond filled stream. I am able to lay my fly line down a lil softer. again could be user error but i'll blame the rod for spooking the fish.
