I need to send off the winter on top flies first. so there's no hurry as far as I'm concerned.

UD2, I have 2 more to tie up, so I will be done tonight.

Dave, did you want us to type something up and send it with the fly's? Or would it be easier for you to have us type it up and email it to you? That way you can cut and paste everybody's recipe/instructions into one doc and send it back out to everyone.

Utah DaveII
01-23-2004, 03:35 PM
I was originally thinking it would be good to do one note, but Trav went to the trouble to each individual fly. I think I will do one master sheet.

Lonnie
01-23-2004, 04:29 PM
Type out your instructions, Select a small font (8) and copy and Paste the instructions about 12 times . Print out 1 page. Cut each into small rectangles and punch each fly through the paper. Voila!

Drake
01-23-2004, 07:40 PM
...I think I will do one master sheet.

I think that is the way to go. One master sheet that you can email out to everyone. I would rather have an e-copy anyway. Knowing me, I would probably loose 6 of the 12 little peices of paper.

Utah DaveII

I'm hearing nothing from jnillson and tightloop. Everybody else's stuff is all ready to go. I don't think they are going to send anything. I have everyone else's package ready to go. Should I keep waiting for those two. IF not I got a lot of extra flies can someone tell me what we should do with a few of them.

Drake
02-10-2004, 04:57 PM
I know that Tightloop is pretty swamped right now, so I don't think you will get anything from him (he's a Tax Man).

My vote is for you to mail them out.

I would say that the swap meister keeps the extras, though you could give me a few. ;-)

Dave, I sent my recipe to you awhile ago. Do you still have it?

Trouty
02-10-2004, 05:00 PM
If you need someone else I could tie some up and bring them by your house tonight or tomorrow. How many do you need?

Utah DaveII
02-10-2004, 05:35 PM
That would be fine. I know we live by each other, but do you know where I live?

Drake, I might have it, but I recieve about 35 e-mails a day. So if you ould send it again it would sure help.

Utah DaveII
02-14-2004, 04:27 PM
Some of you should be getting your flies today in the mail. As you will see not everyone did a recipe sheet. I do have most of the recipes though and will try to post them at one time. I will start with my own.

Warren's CDC emerger.

Tail: mayfly brown micro zelon and woodduck flank.
Abdomen: Olive thread
thorax. grey olive superfine dubbing
Wing: natural cdc feathers

Tying tips this is a real simple patter where the zelon is tied in first and the woodduck is tied over the top. The thread is advanced up to the shank where the wing is tied in slopping backwards at a 45 degree angle. The thorax is added and wing is folded over the thorax and tied down in front. The only trick to the fly is to wrape some thread in front of the wing to get it to flare a little bit. Whip finish and walla, the fly is done.

Use top ride or frogs fanny floatant when fishing this fly.

Nice swap, Super Dave.

Great patterns from the other swapsters. Really nice work.

Mine is a simple Comparadun. Olive-Gray Dubbing, brown antron, and deer hair tied comparadun style. I first learned about the pattern from Christian Howard (sp?) when he worked at Spinner's Fall. It has produced well during BWO hatches on the Provo.

Quil BWO Hackle Stacker

Thread: 14-0 Olive Gordons Griffith.
Tail: Oilve antron tied in sparse with mixed length fibers.
Abdomon: Grizzly Quill
Wing: Hackle Stacked in a color you like.
Thorax: Olive dubbing wrapped around wing.

2. Set up and equip large factory facility, hire and train over 100 locals who don't speak english.

3. Acquire vast quantities of suppliers

5. Seek out and hire innovators.

6. Organize a distribution system and warehouse.

LaFontaine Halo Mayfly Emerger

Hook: Standard Dry Fly Hook
Tag: Clear Antron
Tail: Marabou
Body: Superfine or Seal-Substitute (some translucence is better)
Wing Case: Closed-cell foam
Spike: Orange Deer Hair

Apply floatant only to wingcase and spike,
not to the body. The body should hang below
the surface. When a mayfly opens its wings it
pumps a red/orange fluid into the wings. It onlys lasts a few seconds but is one of the things fish key in on.

Tail: Brown Zelon, Antron, or Darlon (I tied some with zelon & some with darlon)

Hackle: Dark Blue dun

When I got the fly's I was looking at your fly trying to figure out what material was used for the wing. If I had known it was yours, I wouldn't have wondered, I would have known it was bunny. :0)

So, do most shops have snowshoe hair?

Do you fish that fly behind something, or all alone? Gink? It looks like a sweet pattern.
