I would also like to see a pic. I have a pretty good idea of what it looks like from the recipe, but I would like to take a look at one.

Chetland, here is the thread that contains the recipe. It is posted by cheech.

Thanks in advance for sending pics of the Bunny Midge. Did I read right that you and your spouse are expecting? If so Congrats! That's exciting. I just caught my third from the hospital on 12/25/03, pretty good size male 7lbs and 14 oz. took dang near 9 months to reel it in though. Good luck to you and yours. Is your wife having a boy or a girl? Or is it a surprise? Either way congrats and thanks for the pictures. I just sent you an email.

I also have been hearing that Cheech might tie up at Sportsmans. You going to tie this pattern up Cheech.

A few peeps were asking me about it last Saturday.

I think I'm going to be tying on Feb 7th. I just have to get a confirmation from Lowcountry. I think i'm going to do mostly bass bugs, but I guess I could tie a bunny midge. I have also been experimenting with another midge emerger tied out of bunny. I call it the Ditka midge. It is awesome when they are sipping emergers. I will try to get Jason some pics to post too.

This fly looks really good. What sizes are the best or most productive. Is this fly fished mainly in the surface or undernieth? I think I will tie some up before my next fishing trip and give them a try.

What other materials would work in place of the snowshoe? Thanks in advance for your help. Herb

I have only had success with this pattern on top. I think it has too much wing to be a subsurface pattern. I also tie one with orange antron between the wings for more of an indicator fly. I have experimented with antron, and zelon as a substitute for snowshoe hare, but I really like the properties of the hare the best. I suppose yo ucould make a CDC version, but I hate tying with CDC. I use snowshoe hare on any pattern that calls for CDC. The sizes that have been the most productive have been 24 and 30. Yes 30. 20s work well as a BWO imitation, but right now they aren't so hot.

I've been told that snowshoe is waterproof. Never tried to verify that but if its true it makes an excellent material to help keep an emerger in the film.

fishn ~ Did you still want to mix a batch of Jeff Brooks leech mixes or have you already done that? I'm interested in doing a couple of the colors he said have been very effective if you still are. Let me know.

I mixed up a bunch of the Jeff brooks dubbing over the weekend. Man-o- man is there a lot of that stuff when you are done. Pretty cool looking stuff...

Are you playing any ball. I need some hoops!

Fishn lets hook up and do some casting!

I use zelon in place of the tail and also for the wing and just a thread body. I tie them in a grey, tan and a burnt orange.

They work very very well.

Lonnie and Cheech thanks for the pictures of the bunny midge, I'm going to tie a few of thoose tonight.

I've mixed up the damsel mix and it is very good looking and you're right - there is a lot to a batch. Would like to split a batch or two of the leech mix with someone.

I'm not playing ball much - get hurt too often. Still doing a lot of reff'ing though. I play racquetball in the mornings. Ball is being played at the building by you 3 or 4 mornings a week though. I know you and Rod Hog like to hit the Madison but if you ever want to spend some time in Island Park this summer I'll provide the accomodations.

Why can't we do both? I'll fish the ranch as well as the Madison. It's not as if they are 100 miles apart. If you hae accomodations name the day and I'm in.

Ran across this article...

http://www.westbranchangler.com/newsartjohnsnwshe2.htm (actually sounds like the Bunny Midge)

and decided to do a little search on snowshoe...

I think I also saw an article in fly tyer magazine about a comparadun pattern tied with snowshoe. I'm still experimenting with showshoe and haven't used it enough to say if I truly like it or not. I still think CDC is better and much easier to tie with. Either way, snowshoe is a good alternative when CDC is asked for in the recipe.

Being in Cache Valley my access to Snow Shoe feet is limited thru the use of a 22. Where are you getting it from in SLC. I do have my complaints about CDC though I use it and do well with it- but would like to go in another direction- though I do like it better than Zelon or Poly Yarn.

Crosby, you can get it at Fishtech or Sportsman's.

It's like two bucks for a pair.

Trouty, lets get together next week sometime and do a UOTF fly tying get together. I think we still need to source the materials for the rest of the spectrum patterns. If you get a minute call me (801-798-4104) tomorrow sometime before noon. After that I will be out on a trip until Monday of next week.

Last monday we went out Bunny hunting and right before Park Valley two Snowshoes were in the road. We would've had 8 feet to give you, but the Jeep's clearance was a little high. I'll let you know when I have some... :-)

Fred- thanks for the foot. Tied with it last night- looks good- though there are certain flies that I think you have to use the CDC for to get the wing look. But for that midge- thats the way to go.
Thanks again. I'll repay you- but it will not be with PBR.

Right on man. The postal service sure is efficient in Utah. I think I sent that Tuesday.

I like the stuff. The medium dun is the one I used the most, but there are other colors--darker and lighter.

Anyway, you've already repaid me by letting me use your pontoon that day!

Rock on.
