View Full Version : Shack Nasties Stillwater Swap

LBM
01-12-2004, 11:02 PM
I refuse to let the Shack Nasties get the best of me during this weather. For want of a better way to spend my evenings, I'm hosting a stillwater swap. The following rules apply:
1. Favorite stillwater fly.
2. Open to the first TWENTY tiers who sign-up.
3. Cut-off date will be 15 February.
4. Send your completed flies to
Larry Mangum
2528 North 4350 West
Plain City, Ut 84404

My contribution will be Denny Rickard's "Stillwater Nymph".

I am in on this one. I am not that great of a tier, but I have a couple of stillwater paterns I feel would work. Do you want us to tie up just one, or a couple for each participant?

Doug S.
01-13-2004, 06:39 PM
if you tie this bug.."Clete's Cameltoe Emerger" Doug S will vouch for this bugs effectiveness".....No one will want to fish the "other" 18 bugs for sure..:)

Hope your enjoying your new "digs" brother

ill be tying a krystal black mohair leech

cheech
01-13-2004, 06:57 PM
I would tie up a Llama leech, but you all would laugh at how simple it looks. I think I'll tie Staynor' s Ducktail. It may change, but that's it for now.

Fred
01-13-2004, 07:22 PM
If it catches fish, who cares? tie some up.

I hope someone can join and tie up some of those spectrumized damsel flies Jeff Brooks created. Herb?

I'm in. I have never participated in a swap. So somebody will have to walk me through it. I will probably tie something obscure; possibly a white light/white heat.

I was hesitant at first due to a lack of time, but since cheech is in, I know I'll have a few extra weeks............ haha j/k cheech

I know it's supposed to be my favorite pattern, that would probably be a halloween, and that's kind of boring. I'll probably go with a damsel or a dragon.

Fshfanatic, you better not use Mustads or I will beat you into an Arizona trailer dwelling redneck pulp;) I plan on fishing that fly, and I won't be able to do it if it's on a Mustad...

Yep that's right, I refuse to fish Mustads. If Grizz can make a personal decision not to fish the Provo for a year, I can make a similar decision not to fish Mustads..... or Sheltads for that matter!!!

I'm not going to fish the low or mid pro for the entire year. I can't distance myself from those tasty upper reaches! 8))

I'm also a cheap ass & buy mustad more so than Tiemco / Daichi. They do alright for me ............I guess, but when I'm tying the "BIG-BUG", it's 200r's fer sure.

Grizzo- I hear you on the upper reaches. You should try ABI hooks sold by Dennis at www.flydesk.com. I guarantee you won't be dissapointed. $7 per 100, japanese chemically sharpened, etc. I'll be tying my swap fly with these babies.

Lonnie- MWS has never been a good influence on anyone... I guess it's rubbing off. DAMN him!!

Hell from what I hear you don't get out to fish anyway, between building rods and starting to sell rod components and tie flies.
What does it really matter what hooks he uses. You won't be able too use them anyway ! At least the elitist ~ MWSpearo gets out on the water.

I'd like to join the swap. I'm having Lasik in two days and don't plan on tying for a week or so after, but I should still have plenty of time to get the flies done. I'll be tying some type of Chironomid pattern, not sure what just yet, but I'll narrow it down soon.

BTW, I'm still trying to find an address of where to send my flies for the "Winter Top Water" swap. If anyone has the address could you please send an email through the forum letting me know where to send them. Thanks!

OK GUYS, TODAY IS THE SUSPENSE TO HAVE YOUR FLYS IN THE MAIL. I HAVEN'T RECEIVED ANY SINCE THIS 6 FEB UPDATE. SORRY, BUT YOU'RE ALL ADULTS. I'M NOT GOING TO LET THIS DRAG ON FOREVER. NEXT SATURDAY, I'M MAILING OUT THE FLIES I'VE RECEIVED. FOR THOSE OF YOU WHO WHERE KIND ENOUGH TO GET YOUR FLIES TO ME, YOU'LL GET BACK AS MANY FLIES AS YOU SENT, SOME OF WHICH WILL BE DUPLICATES.

Any More bugs make it in??
No, I got an e-mail from Fishin Junkie. He promised to mail them and should have them by Saturday. What ever I have after Saturday's mail arrives will be repackaged and mailed back out. Sorry, but I'm not going to let this go on forever. A suspense date was set, a regular status report was published, and I sent e-mails to everyone whom I hadn't heard from a week before the suspense date. Thanks to those participants who got their flies in on time. You'll get back as many as you sent, but some will be duplicates.
