A while back, I read that post on kitchen passes and see the great worth of them, especially now that I'm married. I got a wonderful idea for one...

My wife got her hair cut (4+ inches) and I salvaged a little. Her blond hair is super thick (squirrel tail-ish) and I came across a wonderful idea... tie up some Lindsay-flies! I don't know if she will appreciate the flies and think them as cool, as I would, but I guess I'll take a shot and see if I can score a pass.

I've used my hair before and blended it in with dubbing...has anybody ever used human hair before with success? (esp with the wife...)

A while back, a flyfishing buddy of mine was getting married, and we had a bachelor party for him in the Sierras. I painfully plucked materials to tie a special fly for him, appropriately called the Butt-Hair Nymph.

Of course, the origin of said tying materials, and for that matter, the name of the fly, were kept from him until after our day of fishing.

The memory of the sight of this guy holding the fly in his lips while tying on tippet, still brings tears to my eyes.

LMAO...Picking myself up off the dirt.

By the way, I've heard unsubstantiated rumors of the "pussycat nymph."

Cary,

The question remains, Did he catch a fish with the "butt-hair" Nymph

IMOO I would not let your wife read this post. Comparing her hair to that of a squrill cant score you many points.

You got your south rim or your north rim squirrel. Each has it's own beauty, wouldn't ya say??

HAHAHAAAA.. God I needed a good laugh.. thanks.

I would think it would be difficult to tie those little curly hairs on.

I have used hair from my dog just fooling around.

I once tied up a fly with black bear, and my friends thought it was from down in that mid-body area... but this hair I'm tying with is from the head...(with 4+ inches of hair cut off, I sure hope it's from up on the head!!!)

This is a great post...you guys kill me.

Caddfly...I say do it!! Someone once asked to use one of my hairs for rod wrapping. I really liked that.

Cary...I've heard of many inventive materials but yours takes the prize...I love it!

What gets me is that Cary apparently has butt hair long enough to tie a fly with? ;-) LOL.

I got a 5 year old that is half bald due to the fact her hair is a perfect match for a PMD wing.............

Cary, that is a great, great story. And he is/was your friend, you say???

a new swap might be just the thing: flies made with human body parts. maybe finally a use for all of those discarded foreskins.....

....for taking this website in a new direction.

It's refreshing to get away from all the whining and bashing if only for a little while.

When first tying I used some of my sisters auburn hair and tied a small nymph in the Pott style, woven-body. It worked great.

The ultimate fly??? In the dead of winter it is a midge......but when summer heat rolls around, it turns into a bass bug.........

I have two questions...

1- What was his reaction after learning he had your butt-hair in his mouth?

2- Did it catch fish??

I have a friend that just got a vasectomy...microtubing???

Night -

1) We all had a good laugh - alcohol induced, as I recall

2) I dont think it was too effective.

I fly swap with body parts? I'll submit the Booger Bugger. Kind of an olive green but hard to get it to sink! LOL

I personally like the BHBBLHE

the Bead Head Belly Button Lint Hare's Ear. If you don't shower for a couple of days before the actual extraction of said lint, it is more effective.

So you are initiating a swap, and you are the swapmeister?

Now if you were using one of this "human hair flies" and it had fleas/lice (i.e. one of Bob Marley's dreadlocks), would it be outlawed on the Lower Provo or Mantua? Not only the live bait, also the Herbal Essence scent might start the Bows' spawn a little early!!!

I will only agree to being swapmiester if a photo and detailed discription of the material being used is submitted. A good example would be a picture of Cary's big toe and a pair of industrial strength Milwaulkee clippers along with a explaination of how he uses old toe nails for the shell back on his " Toe Jam Scud".

I was think of developing not a fly, but ear wax based fly floatant. "Natural, Re-newable, and Doesn't take up a pocket in your vest." I think it would work, but then again, I only made a "C" in organic chemistry....

PS Don't send my your dirty Q-tips....

You have come a long ways Mike. Good job. Been there myself, not a happy place! It sounds like that guy just doesn't like his view in the mirror.

Out!
