Anyone up for a Leech / Bugger swap?

Gezze,
You must have read my mind. I was tying my favorite orange beadhead/egg sucking leaches with an orange tail tonight, thinking I might want to do a bugger swap. Yeah, I'm in.
BTW, if you guys would prefer a black tail let me know, I'll do them instead....

Canadian Blood Mohair
I haven't done a swap since "the Big one" (Faint of Heart) so its about time I do another one. I will tie up an olive/brown. I have had good success at Strawberry and Lost Creek.
I'm in. It's a little olive/orange spectrumized leech that's worked for me at the berry.
Jason

I'm in. I'll probably tie up an Olive CBS Leech. This was one of my best stillwater patterns this past year. We might have to recruit JayMorr to get in on this one and have him tie his famous Strawberry Killer.
Red Beard, post the details of the swap and give us a deadline.

I'll tie my famous 3 hare leech.

Hookjaw, you've got to tie with one of your marabou california leech brushes. I still haven't used mine, but when stillwater comes upon us, it will be one of the first things I use.
Flysmyth- I was under the impression that the 3 hare is Brakke's pattern??
hookjaw
12-23-2003, 04:10 PM
...does this mean your in Cheech?!
cheech
12-23-2003, 04:17 PM
I'm too engrossed in the rod building swap right now to do anything else. I've got a pattern or two up my sleeve, but I'm too busy right now.
Jason
12-23-2003, 04:23 PM
I don't know Cheech, it is one of those unwritten rules that if you pipe in on a Fly Swap thread, you're in. I think you should tie up one of your propeller flies.
cheech
12-23-2003, 04:30 PM
No can do amigo. I already had to drop out of tightloop's million man march swap. I am to the point that I barely have time to tie for ME. Jason I was wondering how you turned a Canadian Brown Seal (CBS) leech Olive?;)
Hookjaw, if you've still got room, I'll tie an Olive seal bugger.
Larry
Jason
12-23-2003, 05:09 PM
Canadian Brown is Olive, the Canadians just call it Brown. :-) Actually I mix my seal with a little more olive colored seal dubbing so it does have more of a green/olive tint. I'm still calling it a CBS leech. Those darn Canadians. In fact, I tie up my CBS leeches in a few different shades. COS Leech just doesn't have a ring to it. So Cheech, you're in on the swap, right? What are you tying?
cheech
12-23-2003, 05:22 PM
I'll be tying a 7'6" 3 wt.

I am in with a peacock herl bugger battern. More towards the end of January would be better for me for a due date as I am already involved in 2 other swaps.
FlySmyth
12-23-2003, 05:51 PM
The Three Hare Minnow is Brakkes' pattern.
What's your point. If I claim tieing rights first and he wants in he has to tie a different pattern.
Besides nobody knows better than you about plagerising a pattern and renaming it your own. <G>
FlySmyth.
Lonnie
12-23-2003, 06:21 PM
The end of Jan. would work for me too. If I decide to get lazy and not staighten up the house tonight (the wife is visiting the in-laws...), I could have them done in the a.m., or at least by X-mas day.
One more question. Would you guys like them weighted or un-weighted. It's the same to me....

Flysmyth- I like to give credit where credit is due. I really don't like to plagerize except when it comes to re-naming midge adult soft hackles?? I think it should be called "Brakke's other pattern that Flysmyth is claiming as his own"... My best invention is a squirrelly fly that is very versatile. I call my daughter my little bugger, and the fly reminded me of her but it was really fuzzy. I named it the Wooly Bugger.
I will be submitting pictures of my 3 wt for the swap;)

A few things to remember when sending out your flies. It makes it much easier for the swapmeister.
1. Put flies in a crush proof container.
2. Label each fly with a small piece of paper with your name and the name of the fly. Business cards can also be used.
3. Include return postage, preferrably a pre-paid postage envelope.
4. A few extra flies for the swapmeister.
5. Send them out on time.

As my Dad would say "Good lord willing and the creek don't rise" the mailperson should drop them off at my house today. Come-on 5:00pm....

Got mine, and they are SWEET!
Sorry I didn't attach the recipe to mine, so here it is...
Hook: TMC #8 3xl (don't remember the model #)
Thread: Uni black 6/0
Body: Black Llama/purple holo mylar, made using stainless steel wire and twisted into dubbing brush, wrapped full shank.

Sorry I didn't attach a note like you all did. Mine is the Blood Red Mohair.
Simple:
Canadian Blood Red Mohair
Blood Red Maribou
Crystal Flash
Wine Colored thread
I like the smaller hooks 6x
Works great at Henry's Lake / East Canyon / Strawberry / Lost-Creek
Sweet looking flys.... My favorite was the Bunny Ghost Killer. Never seen that one before. They all looked freaking awesome!
I am not worthy!

The flies look killer guys. Nice job. Probably the best stillwater swap I've been in. Thanks.

All of them were great. I can't wait to get out and try some of them. Who wants to take my still water fishing ???
A little about mine. I used to fish a smaller version of this fly on rainy days back east when the water was murkey. It's really a fall fly. Try it during the spawn....
Thanks for letting a novice jump in this swap,
Lonnie

Nightfish, those dubbing brushes can be a lot of fun!

Call me "Mr. Twister";) I love making them, and playing with different combinations. Plus, with the stainless core, they're tough as nails. With a good, strong hook, and stout leader, a single streamer will last for 100+ fish.
