There are several ways to skin a squaw but I'm trying to find a dull/low luster wrap finish. Many rods today come with a 'matte' finish and yet the wraps stand out quite a bit. Have any of you run upon a wrap sealer that results in a dull finish?

I presume you are saying to rub the wrapping after it has dried.

In my rod building I was looking for a way to take the small blems off my finish and still leave a finish that I could buff with some car wax back to a good shine. I found steel wool would do it for me, I can take off all the blems and all the shine and with a little car wax bring back a nice finish. Now I dont know about the finishes you all use in graphite assembly but if the coat gets hard, and the wax doesnt react weird to the finish it should work. Try it on a scrap piece of graphite and finish first!

I apply a coat of good quality automotive wax to my fly rods 2-3 times a year as well as the old handful of Comet rubbed into the cork trick once in a while - make them all look brand new.

Low Country called it some kind of weird overly anal clean-freak fixation and said I was rubbing off all the povitive fishing mojo.
