This past year I got into still water fishing. I bought a pontoon boat and have fished out of boats with my fly-rod on many occasions. As many of you know, my last still water experience didn't go so well.

Call me stupid, or persistant, I really don't know which it is to be honest with you. Any way, I am going to hit it again in the spring. I would like to set-up my pontoon boat with a motor. I have tried it with the oars and the flippers and really don't enjoy either a great deal. I have a motor that a friend will sell me.

My question is this: Do any of you have suggestions on the ultimate set-up as far as where to mount the battery, motor mounting, rod holders, etc........

I don't just want to start cutting and hacking away at my boat. I plan to make or buy a piece of aluminum diamond plate to replace the grill rack behind my seat. I need something more stable. Any suggestions on where I can get a piece already built for my boat?

Any suggestions or advice would be grately appreciated!

Thank you!

Try doing a search on the forums. There's been some good discussions this past year on this same subject which may help you out.

I think it also depends on your boat. YOu should see what type of motor mount the manufacturer recommends.

I got a deal on an outback outfitter's Expedition from Gart's on Close-Out for cheap. Good boat though.

Not good enough on last year's opener at Henry's Lake though? LOL. Remember?......................what a joke that was.

I know the best place in town to buy metal if you still need some let me know I can't think of the name off the top of my head but will look it up if you still need it.

FlySmyth.

PS I'd be happy to show you my set up. I too hate fins and oars.

It wasn't Affiliated Metals was it? I would enjoy coming by and checking out your boat and getting some more ideas, as well as meeting you. I have seen a few, but I haven't liked any of them.

Thanks for the offer!

My son works at Metal Supermarket on 19-- south and 500 West. He will sell you any qty. of metal you want (no such thing as too small for these folks). That is were several of us got our diamond plate. He also made a really nice motor mount for me. I don't think he is interested in making any more but he could help you oult with whatever you need to do it yourself or have it done. You can reach them at 801-972-4580 his name is Rucker.
