Hello,

I am brand new to this board, but thought it would be a good place to ask for some information. I'm from Utah, now living in Wisconsin where there are many very active chapters of TU. I am an active member and have been involved as much as I can be. It is an incredible organization here in Wisconsin because of fantastic local leadership and member volunteer efforts. The list of stream projects, and chapter events (fundraisers, etc.) is impressive.

Now my question: I searched the board and read a string of postings about local TU chapters in Utah and was dissapointed in what I read. I got the impression that local TU is perhaps alive, but somewhat dysfunctional in much of Utah. That is a shame. Is this true? The reason I ask is that I was thinking about giving my father a membership for Christmas. He would be a great asset to TU, but more importantly (to me personally) is that he would benefit immensely by getting involved with an organization like TU - in many ways. But, if TU is as some on this board have described it then maybe its not such a great idea. Of course, the money would still in my opinion go to an absolutely great organization, but that's not my point or my question. My interest here is in helping my pa, the man that introduced me to the world and to fly-fishing. Enough said about that.

So....is there a functional chapter of TU in Utah County?

I'm happy to say I will be back home for Christmas, that is, I'll be with my dad in the Provo by next Thursday (even if we have to break the ice out of our guides every other cast)!!!

Thanks for reading this and for any comments you may have.

Cold hands,

JD

I believe they're starting up a Utah County Chapter as we speak. I have a contact name but it's at home. I can post it later tonight.

No there is currently no TU Chapter in Utah County. About three years ago, I worked with Wes to start one, but there just wasn't much interest. The Utah Valley Fly Rodders would have been a good start, but that too went away.

Right now my time is quite limited to spearhead something like this again, so hopefully someone might pick up the ball and run with it again.

If you're a supporter of TU, don't let lack of a chapter dissuade you. The Stonefly Society (Cary can give you some details) is a great organization and I believe they are a TU chapter.

I'm sure other people have more info too.

Yes there is a Utah Chapter and they had their first meeting in November. Todd Haddfield is the name of the gentleman who is trying to organize this chapter. I have his number if you want to email me.

Please don't get the wrong idea from a few negative posts. I think you will find the majority of people on this site support TU. While Utah is a bit behind they are moving forward and need the help of good volunteers especially in Utah County.

Good to have you on the site!

Hmmm....So there is and there isn't a chapter in Utah County. Doesn't sound too hopeful, but then again, Stef and Jason, if its just beginning then surely the group would be in need of some help and some enthusiasm. Thanks.

Grizz,

Nope, not Marco. Don't happen to know him either.

The Utah County chapter has jsut got going in the last month and a half. So yes it will need volunteers. GWARE is a frequesnt contributor to this site and owns Lone Peak Outfitters. I am sure that he can point you in the right direction if you e-mail him.
