With the end of the year drawing near, it is probably a good time to start evaluating how well you have done with the challenge...it is also a good time of year to start looking at catching pike. If anyone is interested in trying for a northern pike from Redmond Reservoir before the first of the new year, let me know. I had tons of fun catching them last winter...

Where is Redmond? How do you fish for pike? Would a 5wt do, or do you have to have a heavier outfit?
Sounds really fun...Shoot me an e-mail....

I fished for them with my dad in the NW territories of Canada. Freshwater barracuda. I've never seen a more aggressive species of fish in my life. We used big bright ULGY marabou streamers. Fish didn't seem to care. Just make sure you have about 8-12" of a thick shock tippet on. The teeth on those guys are nasty. I think I was using a 6wt, but the ones we were fishing for weren't that big (3-5 pounds).
Have fun,
Lonnie

Redmond is in the south central part of the state about an hour and fifteen minutes away from Provo...it is a small reservoir (or mud/garbage puddle depending on your perspective) that has good numbers of bass, catfish, and carp. It is a pretty attractive fly fishing sight (in my opinion) during the winter months because there are not too many stillwaters around that do not freeze. I use a 5 weight on the reservoir and have never had any problems...the chances of catching a truly large pike are probably pretty minimal. I like throwing really bright zonkers or minnow patterns. I never had an outstanding day, but I did get some action on each trip I took.

As long as you promise to not have me end up in a ditch somewhere!
Seriously, sounds like fun. If I'm invited?

Was this the e-mail you were talking about, Dave? If so, sorry...yeah, sure come along. I don't care who comes and who doesn't...
...right now, about the only days I can go would be Saturdays or Sundays...basketball season is in full force now.

I might hit you up sometimes this winter to go. the fact that I am now in Manti, it might be nice to go somewhere close after some winter fish.

I won't be able to go for the next 2 weeks, but after that I am free. Sounds like a riot!
