View Full Version : Winter Midge Swap

JayMorr
09-22-2003, 03:10 PM
Alright with Winter coming upon us I will be hosting a Winter Midge Swap.

Lets try and fill up 12 spots. Deadline date will be October 31st.

I hate the word: Rules ; but I am going to throw out a couple.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Send your flies in a mail proof container. (You spent the time tying up those pretty flies. Use a container that will protect them while in the mail.

Enclose a return self addressed envelope with postage. (This can be a pre-paid envelope or a envelope and a dollar to cover the cost.)

Try and attach a label to your flies. Include the name of your flie and your handle name. (I love seeing who tied what.)

Submit your flies by October 31st. (This will ensure that everyone gets there flies at the beginning of November as we head into Winter fishing.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Like Cheech's last swap, I will have some people critique your art. Winner gets a small prize.

Also I will post pictures of everyones flies on my homepage so that everyone can see them. You can vistit pics from the Terrestrial swap here:

http://home.earthlink.net/~jmorrison0077/id2.html

Let's have some fun. ;) As soon as I get 12 people I will close it off.

I'm in and I will even make two promises:
1 - I will have them to you on time without all the trouble I made you go through last time.
2 - I will let you know in advance what I am going to tie so we don't end up tying the same thing. I haven't decided yet but I will real soon.

I've never done one of these swaps, but if there is still room I want in. Let me know if there is room. If so, I'll tie up some bead head Yong specials. (a little something I put together because the Yongs is a great dropper, but never sank well. That is until I added a tungsten bead to it!)

If there is no more room, I'll catch a different swap.

Just wondering if there was still a spot at the time I replied to this post or not? If so, great, I'll tie up some midges. If not, I guess I'll hang my head and fish alone for a while. :^( Let me know, cause to me it looks like I got ousted by Danny. But hey, I'm a big enough man to admit defeat! I would love to participate, but am happy to wait my till next time. Or, if someone has to bow out for some reason I would be happy to whip up some of the little fellas and send them off.

Tight lines on small flies, mmmmmmmmm!

Just wanted to say thanks for letting me participate in the midge swap! I wish I wasn't in school so I could attend more of the meetings/outings with the people on this site. It would be nice to put some faces to names, of course I've probably seen a bunch of you on the river sometime, but just didn't know it. Anyway, tight lines to all...... I'll be tying a variation of the bead-head zebra midge, in red! My favorite color!

I just sent mine.

When I tell the clerk at the post office I need to put in enough postage to send the package back to me, they take it as a challenge to find the stamps to EXACTLY match the postage. This time they found a 60 cent and a 23 cent stamp. So Jay, let me know if that isn't enough postage.

The only person I did not recieve flies from was LBM. Let me know if you sent them or still want to.

And the WINNER is Stef. (Biot Midge, very nice pattern)

Runners up was Cheech & Utah Dave with his Reverse Midge Pattern.

(Favorite Winter Fly Pattern was Nightfish with the "Partyball". I am sorry you wont see it. Really cool fly!)

We had some great patterns. Thanks for the extra flies...you guys were kind.

I'm just shitty! Ask Beatis how much crap rod hog gave me today, regrding my flytying skills. The nice thing is that reverse midgefly is pretty easy to get into a rythm tying and still looks good. IE. it's hard t screw up!

Wanted to say thanks to all for the midgies, they look tasty! I pulled them out of the mailbox as I took my wife out to dinner. Obviously I couldn't wait to look at them so I took them into the restaurant. The waitress thought I was a bit weird everytime she came to check on us and I was staring at a bunch of tiny things in a cardboard box. Thanks to all!

Cheech, I was wondering what type of material you used to tie the wings on your KFC midge? At first glance I thought it was CDC, but as I looked closer it looked like something different? Care to share? Steph, your biot midge was deserving of the award, quite impressive!

The favorite winter flies are awesome! I had the chance to use a few this weekend on the provo and look forward to trying them all!

I want to know who tied up the fly with the white tag saying 'bonus fly'. The body was a irredescent color and the head was dubbed red. IT'S AWESOME!!!! I want the recipe :) It worked nicely this weekend.

Thank you JayMorr for hosting the swap and the extra bonus flies you included. It was a great surprise! I'm glad you had luck on the Provo :)
