Does size count on the challenge? Because I just caught the smallest smallmouth bass I think I have ever seen in my life. It was only 2.5-3 inches long.

By the way, how can you tell the difference between small and largemouth bass. Another by the way, I caught this microbass at the hilton at the international center. Can anyone verify that they have smallmouth there?

The corner of the mouth didn't extend behind eye, the body had no prominent horizontal stripe like largemouth I have caught at pelican. The body had a green tint to it. It also had no vertical stripes like bluegill I have caught, nor did it have a wide (belly to dosal) profile like bluegill I have known.

Is this a smallmouth or is something else?

EZ, I think there are Largemouth's in there, not smallmouths.

it didn't look like any largemouth I've ever caught though.

Who knows, it could have been a smallmouth. It's probably pretty hard to distinguish between the two when it was only 3 inches long. ;-) Talk to the front desk at the Hilton and see if anyone can give you any info. That's what I did last year.

Imagine a line directly down from the eye, the lip of a smallmouth comes back to just under its eye while the lip of a largemouth comes past the eye.

If ouzel is correct, and I paid sufficient attention (which I tried very hard to do), then it was a smallmouth bass. And I just got some new points on the challenge.

If your that hard up to get points .... then just call it a smallie and be done with it.

Its a personal challenge if thats the way you want to do it go ahead.

Cheech caught a bunch of chubs.

I got one nice smallie and a bunch of perch.
