Hopper/beetle Swap?

Any interest to have a Hopper/beetle swap? When I think of long hot summer days, I think of throwing Hoppers and beetles up under the river banks.

Each person could post what type of terrestrial they are going to tie. If we could get a list of maybe 10 to 12 people, I would be happy to host it or help anyonelse that would like to.

I'm already involved in the newbie swap, I can tie the same bug for both swaps. A black crystal flash foam beetle. Nightfish saw one at Washington lake. I think it looks pretty good.

bbq sounds good, it'd have to be on a wednesday or at least three weeks away(and then on a thursday after that) --- that is assuming it's being held in the evening.

Is there still room in the swap? I keep telling the wife that I won't do another one, but the lure of the BBQ is too much. Has it turned into a terrestrial swap or is still a hopper/beetle swap? I would probably do some kind of hopper anyway. Whether or not I can do it may depend on the due date. I am in San Diego until the 28th.

If the due date is sometime after the 28th and there is still room, let me know.

Ok with some of the new interest in joining and also having a BBQ, I will post a new list. Also lets get some ideas on a park or stream to meet at! I really liked RAW's idea of having a BBQ and then fishing with our new flies.

How is Wednsday August 13th for everyone? Lets plan tennatively for that day. I will await your feedback.

For those of you that cannot make the BBQ, have your flies in the mail with a self addressed return envelope by August 6th. Lets have everyone tie up 12 just in case we have a couple others decide to join in at the last minute. Also this will not just be Hopper/Beetle swap. We can open this up to a Terrestrial swap. I hope that clears up some of the questions I have been recieving via your emails.

Ideas for BBQ location:

Lower Provo Camp Ground
Weber River (Spring Chicken Inn) -It's a small restraunt
Big Cottonwood Canyon Campground

Those are a few ideas that I had. I will start adding everyones ideas for a location place. This will be a blast!

Also that stream doesn't recieve an inordinate amount of pressure so our flies should recieve the attention they deserve.

Speaking of Recipes, how bout we all include the recipes to the flies we tie so we can tie them on our own later, in case we lose them.

Also along with the bbq, I thought we could hit the river, (I'm assuming we're going to the big cottonwood campground).
perhaps we could use the flies that we tied up for the swap.

I know there is not 12 people yet but this is a good example of getting additional people towards the end of the swap.

You can BBQ at the campground sites. I had called off the BBQ since most of you sent me emails saying that you would not be able to attend.

However, if those of you that can go fishing that night, we could meet up and throw a few bugs. Let me know.

At the moment, all I have is a 9' 6wt so I am more comfortable on Big Cottonwood. However, I have used the same rod on Millcreek with kind of a leader only flail (not really a cast).

Anyone know if the WW Griggs 6ft. 3wt is in stock at Sportsman's?

try a 5' leader and a foot of 5x. It fits a long rod & small stream well.

Ok I am back in the saddle again after a tragic tooth loss. LOL

Anyways I will have Johnny's flies tomorrow. Since we are now about 10 days over due I am going to be sending all the flies out on Friday. Most of you should have them on Monday. It was a great swap!!! We had some really neat patterns turned in.

You should all have your flies Monday. I spent some time taking some photos of everyones flies. I am sorry that they are not the highest resolution. I just wanted everyone to have a chance to see the great patterns you all submitted. I picked up Johnny's flies today and when I saw the pattern he tied up (Crystal Butt Hopper), I had to quickly tie up another pattern ;) I changed my pattern and tied up RAW's twisted Foam Fly. Since he has been busy I thought I would give it a shot (sorry it is not the original hand tied by RAW!); but at least you will have another pattern that is not the same. Thanks again for the great time. I will host a Nymph swap as we get closer to Winter.
