Anyone know of any Utah fly tying clubs? How do these clubs work? Dues? Web sites? Contact names?

Hi Jason,
Get with Wes Johnson and TU. They have several meetings that include fly tying and other Trout Unlimited information at these meeting. Lots of great people with the same concerns.... Lots of Great fly tyiers in this group also....

Hi Jason,

We used to have a little group of tiers that met in Ogden at the old Fly Line shop that the Barkers use to own. It was fun to get together to tie and swap lies. You could come in a tie for fun or work on orders. We even had a key to the place. When the Fly Line shut its doors the group just fell apart. I don't know why some of the shops don't do something like that. I guess it is just like everything else...once you spend all day in a fly shop you just want to go home and do something else.

I'll bet if you contact any of the local fly shops, you will find out they have tying schools. Just ask if they can sponser or offer some kind of club? It would be to there bennefit, since you would buy a lot of the materials from them you need to tye the flies for that night! Try Hooked in Kaysville. He does. There used to be a club in Bountiful too!

Actually that was one of my ideas. Maybe I could form a UOTFly tying club and meet at one of the local fly shops every month of two. I thought of contacting High Country in Ogden or Western Rivers in Salt Lake. Another thought is that we could form two clubs, one in the Ogden area and one in the Salt Lake area. It could be a cool thing if it works out.

Jason,
I would be interested in that. I think that High Country would go for it also.

Jason,
In Bountiful, there is a fly tying club called Great Western Fly Fisherman Club. I have been in this club for almost 4 years now. They meet in the Grace Baptist Church every Thursday at seven.
They have 2 fly tying nights and then a club meeting every 3rd week. They have a guest speaker come and tie for the club meeting. I have seen Larry Tullis and Gary Lofontaine come and tie and it has really been a great club. The club runs from January 10th till March 21st. The cost is only $15 for the fly tying classes, 6 tying claases in all. There is a beginner, intermediate, and Advanced class. Each class has an instructor that supplies the materials. Hope this helps.
