Went up to Currant creek on Friday along with every other fly fisherman in Utah and spent some time fishing the stream.
5 years of no flushing flows is really starting to take it toll. There are beaver dams everywhere. Plafes that have never had a beaver dam in 20 plus years of fishing know have a dam across them.
I understand the importance of beavers and some of their benefits to fisheries, but with no high water the old dams are not getting broken down and after their silted in thebeavers are just moving to the next site down or upriver. It's amazing because the high flows in 1997-1998 cleaned almost all of the dams out of the stream and created all kinds of new holes and pools. Man did it lead to some good fishing for a few years. Now, the darn rodents have built all of the dams back plus a bunch of others.
It's going to be a long summer on this one!
Let's hope that we get some serius snow next year and they can let some water down the stream.
