I am going to go hit up jordanelle some time flyfishing for the smallies. I was just wondering when should I go and what flys should I use? Any info would be greatly appreciated thanks

Cheech should be able to help you on this one. I've been using larger leech patterns and soft hackle streamers. Gets both the smallies and bows.

really like rocks and more rocks. They like rocky beaches, rocky steep slopes and rocky reefs.

It's still early and water temps need to come up before they really become active and begin their spawn so find a rocky shore and work out from it with a slow presentation.

I actually am about to start the fishing for the Smallies myself. I think they will be on through the end of this month throughout the summer. They should start spawning soon, and that can make for some great fishing. Try Clousers, standard buggers, etc. My all around best fly for Jordanelle is the Olive Willey. We may be trying it out later this week.

P.S. don't fish with anything less than a 6wt. and 3x or 2x tippett. See the photo album for reasons why (the pic is bad, but you can get the idea)

Right now is a great time for the larger fish. Catch them before the smaller fish move in. Look for Smallies on shallow flats, points, and anywhere warmer water enters the lake........

My friend fished there last week and had 5 fish that weighed over 21 pounds together......

Cheech, next time (other then this weekend) if you see Joni at Orvis, let her know when you'll be fishing Jordanelle and we can see about meeting you up there. Maybe we can get fshfanatic out of the 'glass boat and trolling rig setup and back in the kickboat again.

sounds like a plan. MWS and I might hit it during the week sometime. It's a joke on Saturday, so I'll let you know.
