Has anyone mountain biked into the Middle Fork Area with fly fishing gear? How technical? How far can you go? I know most of the fish are small but that's fine with me.

Haven't fished it for a few years. The middle fork has a special spot in my heart, it was my first fly fishing expirience. Haven't been real far up, but I have been told the further you go up the bigger the fish get. It is difficult in some places to cast because of trees, but there is always a way around that. The fish will take just about anything off the top, and you're right, the fish are not big. A 12 incher is unheard of up there. But if you like beautiful country, and a lot of fish, that is a good spot.

I have ridden in there horseback some not mountain biked, but I have mountain biked enough to say that its probably not a technical ride just one you have to grind out the elevation change.

Its probably running pretty high right now.

Thanks for the info. I'll be giving it a try in the next few weeks.

Don't forget to give me a jingle when you decide to go. I'd like to beat down the rattlers for you while you fish.

I think it was 2 summers ago me and a friend of mine went up there to do some biking and found it mostly unpleasant. If I rememer right we ended up pushing our bikes a good portion of the way because of large rocks in the trail. I also remember a couple of cowboys that wanted to kick our butts for bringing bikes on their "horse trail" and scaring their horses.

So unless me and my buddy are weak bikers or there has been some trail work done I wouldn't want to bike it again.

I was up there yesterday and the flows are pretty high.

Raw, it is an pretty easy bike ride, similar to any other mountain bike trail along the wasatch. Rode it over memorial day.

In the mid 90's I made many MB/FF excursions up MF. I think you can go all the way to LaPlatta (sp) (?) (off the back side of MC). I was suprised at the size of fish back then, but wouldn't know how the low water years have affected them. Once you're above the diversion, it's a tasty little crik. Lots 'o rattlers too & one helluva Cicada hatch!

peace

I took the horses up there three times this year. The lack of water has really put a hurt on the fish. Turkeys are doing good though.
