Does anyone have the construction information on Tube Bodiz, which were created by Christian Billard and distributed by 3M Scientific Anglers? Jason Borger once wrote an article about Tube Bodiz in 1998 Fly Fisherman.

Tube Bodiz are a type of extended body that is hollow inside, floats well, and very durable (rubber-like). Tube Bodiz are made by spinning fine and long dubbing fibers (like silk or superfine) on a needle axis with silicone as a binder, and there is no thread base. Tube Bodiz look like hollow cigar made up of dubbing fibers and silicone only. I found web sites that carried the pictures of Tube Bodiz ( http://www.fishandfly.co.uk/tackleroom/siman_tubes.html and http://www.siman.cz/ see the 'tube body' section), but I could not get the detailed construction method.

I know there are other effective types of extended body made of deer hair, moose hair, micro-chenille, closed-cell foam or woven floss on a monofilament. But I have already tried them, and now, I want to focus on this particular type of extended body, that is, Tube Bodiz.

If possible, could you give me some tips about how to make Tube Bodiz? Your comments are highly appreciated.

uhhh...take a needle, spread some silicone on it, and wrap dubbing on top of that?

The construction method is covered in "The Fly Tiers Benchside Reference" if you can get your hands on a copy. But Flyty is pretty close on. I've used Flexament...don't know how regular silicone would do.

adso4,

I tried one of those extended body flies made out of silicone and dubbing today on the lower Provo. It was the first fly I used, and I drifted it over the edge of some riffles that dropped off into a run, and as the fly crossed the edge of the riffles and moved into the deeper water a big lunker came up from the depths and did a slow roll over the fly. It was the best fish I caught all day.
