I am looking for a way to make my own wing burner, or similar tools. Anyone had any success in doing this?

I read about someone who did that. I think they used brass sheeting, which they cut into small rectangles, and then drew the outline on the brass and used a grinder to shape it.

As I look at the tools you can buy, they look just like that. I now need to go find brass sheeting and see what I can come up with. Maybe some hard platic with a high heat rating will work.

Home Depot here I come.

Anyone else have an idea?

"Maybe some hard platic with a high heat rating will work."

I doubt it. The idea is to use a material that conducts heat well, so that it can burn the wing.

[edit]hmm...I guess I didn't have my head on straight when I posted this message. Hard plastic with a high heat rating would work and it would be easier to shape.

Considering the amount of material needed you might want to try a hobby shop before Home Depot.

With all the hassle why not just buy the wing burners?

You're right, but some like to make their own tying tools.

I see, if that is the case, as far as saving money I don't think so on this project.

It doesn't mention the cost of the brass, but I'll go find some.
