Just wondering if anyone out there has hit Strawberry very hard. Been a couple of times, has been hit and miss, but everything seems to be big! Nothing under 20 inches yet. Let me know what the deal is. We have had success on olive buggars.

I've been out once to Soldier Creek. I caught lots of rainbows and a cutthroat. Things are looking good compared to last season so far. All fish caught were on a gold (sparkly type ;)) and brown bugger.

I heard the cops have wooden legs up there on Big Rock Candy mountain too.

I'd make every fisherman carry a tape measure and use it on the first three-thousand fish they caught.

Constantly amazes me how many 15-inch green river browns are 19 inchers, and how many 16 - 17 inch strawberry cuts are 22 inches.

A 20-inch trout is rare. Sure some are caught now and then, but even those grand fish are reported as 26 inches and 8 pounds.

Sheesh!

I think if people started carrying tape measures they would be surprised to find their fish shrink by 3 or 4 inches. I know mine did when I started to carry a tape measure in my vest. It does make it cooler to catch that rare large fish and know its actual size.

i just put a couple of wraps 12, 18 and 24 inchs from the butt of the handle to fairly accurately measure a fish. of course, i always round up!

Come on guys you know fishing is about 20% skill 30% luck and 50% lies. What fun would it be without a nice story to share with your budies. I kown guys that I use the subtract 3 therory. "I caught 10 fish" (he ment 7) "That fish was 20' long" (he ment 17') "that fish was 6 pounds" (he ment 3). Some of my buddies I even user the divide by 2 therory.

You make a great point? I agree all fisherman should carry tapes and counters... This would greatly decrease the amount of claims made at times.... I just wish some of these 20 inch guys had been in my gym class when rumours could help a guy..

A guy in the office goes fishing. The next day he gives us a report that he caught between 20 - 40 fish. OK, so which is it, 20 or 40? Can you even pin point it to 15-20 or was it 35-40? How many did you really catch? Answer, "between 20-40".

By the way, the other day I caught a fish that was somewhere between 1 1/2 pounds and 15 pounds!

My favorite story is when they tell you they caught 40 fish in 4 hours and they all fought for at least 20 minutes because they were so big. My best days fishing are when I catch a couple of fish an hour and spend a good forearm burning 10 or 15 minutes trying to get them in. Those days just don't happen often enough

I love it when a guy fishing right next to you catches a 12 inch fish, holds it up, looks at you, and yells "17!".

Cary does that a lot. lol

I once caught a 20 pound white fish on the Provo River.....dpflyfisher.....I'm going to have to use your rule of thumb divided by 6....:)

I lost your e-mail addres. I need to send you a pic of a 17 incher....

One other rule that is on the edge is I fish with guys that say I caught 40 fish in a 3-4 hour period but I never seem to see him land the fish. One day I asked what do you consider catching a fish and it he went on for a few seconds and that is when I realized that he didn't go by my rule of if you can't cook it you can't count it. (we always practice catch and release so cooking is just a saying) His idea of catching fish was a lot different if he had a fish hit a dry or pop his strike indicator down he would count those fish as caught.

The only guy you need to ? is the guy that comes in smelling like a fish and tells you they weren't biting today.

Ok guys, here's the "lie formula":

(# fish caught) * 2 = # fish reported

(true length of fish) * 1.5 = length reported

Common code terms:

20 inch fat rainbow = 15 inch skinny hatchery fish (species unknown)

100 fish day = I caught a few but didn't want to count so I could make up a nice number at the end.

10 pound brown = 2 lb whitefish that was tough to get out of the water because the net caught on a branch.

Simple algebra can be used to decipher our fellow FF'ers reported fishing success. This can't be used or discussed beyond this forum or we'll all be exposed for the liars we are. shhh.....

Don't forget the rule that you can't count fish that are smaller that a certain part of your anatomy.

I have never caught a fish smaller than that part!!

Remind me not to go fishing with you. It would take all of the fun out of it plus how would I impress my kids?? :)

I would never get to count any fish If I went by that rule.

How many of these people in this forum can keep the lie formula secret? I am afraid now that we are all going to be exposed. Anyone that doesn't stretch the length of their fish when telling their story atleast 3 inches is lying. I make it a common practice to add 3 inches and 2 pounds to every fish I catch. But I don't count the fish as a catch until I can atleast see it in the water!

What about the 'Rule of 3'? Someone says that they caught a 20 incher was really 17. If they caught 12 fish they really only caught 4. It's a true science. Test it out for yourself. Next time you catch a nice fish estimate how big it is, then actually measure it. You'll over estimate the size by at least 3 inches. This rule can also apply to certain other unmentionables. Haven't you guys seen American Pie?

BTW, I caught 72 fish in two hours the other night. Most were bluegill mixed in with a few large mouth bass. What a blast. That's actually 24 for you guys that aren't good at math. ;-)

Hmmm..there was a certain fly tier/demonstrator that said he caught over 250 fish one day. Possible?

carpman

250.......doubtful.

My favorite.....

When people find out I like to fly fish for Carp, they always have a hotspot where the Carp are all "HUGE". Any Carp is huge when compared to an average Trout. So I routinely hear the..... "man you should go to Utah Lake, there's tons of HUGE Carp there". 5-8 pounders, big fish............. yes, but not huge for a Carp. It's all relative. Good times........

Hey Lance, don't knock my new hot spot. Utah Lake rocks. I caught a nice carp that was 10-12+ pounds a couple weeks ago. I guess I just caught an extra 'huge' one. ;-)

Holey shizz I want to head out and catch some carp I have been looking into it for about a year just haven't tired it yet. I Inherited browning 7wt rod from gramps hope it can do the job I still need to get some line for the reel.

I have caught a lot of fish over the last few years in Strawbery that were a true 20 inches and above. I usually always catch the biggest ones of the year at ice off and just after. So I personally don't doubt it right now. As the year goes on the fish I catch up there seem to get a little smaller through the summer. Maybe just me but, that has been my experience anyways. TS

I sure hope you don't measure each fish on the river. Warn me where and when you plan on fishing.

Jason,

I wasn't specifically ripping on Utah Lake. You could substitute any Carp lake....... A 12 pound fish is nothing to balk at........
